Eddy,
There seems to be something that you are missing. Epoxy is the better
patch resin, but it performs poorly with mat. This is because mat is
bound by a temporary glue that is supposed to disolve in the acetone
that is part of a polyester mix. There should be no acetone in epoxy.

Mat is used to make a smooth surface that the lumps of the roving won't
show through.

The PA thing is not bad, but better is buy the West Epoxy (Gougeon bros.
) book titles something like "fibreglass boat repair" - it is worth the
few bucks.

As you say you are going to use epoxy (good), get the pump set for what
ever system you select. This will eliminate the "bad mix problem.

Hello all,
I'm doing a patch job to the underside of a fibreglass driftboat with
fibreglass matt and roving material (weave).

What is applied first after the area is wetted down woth expoxy resin - the
matt or the weave?

The material is about 18" x 18"

Thank you.
Eddy
