Default Advice please.

Planning out a driving/skiing holiday on the West coast next February.
Initial plan is to fly into San Fran then grab a car and drive up the
101 coastal to Vancouver then up to Whistler for a few weeks.
The drive is where I need your advice.
Any ideas on how much time to allow, places to see, places to stay
overnight, particularly places to avoid.
We don't intend to actually stay anywhere for a day, just take in the
sights and pick out a place to use as a base for a week or so for
later on, probably on the Oregon coast..

Any advice gratefully accepted as I've not travelled this part of the
US before.

Stay away. We don't need your kind here. There might be a gun along the
way, and you might freak out.

I've driven the coast to Eureka via highway 1. But only flew north, never to
BC. There are plenty of B&Bs in Cal of course. February should be fairly
empty. If you take 101 for part of the way, Healsburg is nice that time of
year, not so much the weather, but the lack of crowds and there are many
excellent restaurants. If you like, I can did out my list.

Thanks Jon,
Anything easily to hand would be appreciated..plenty of time to plan.

I've stayed at Windsor, done the Sonoma wine route for a few days and
driven out along the Russia River/Bodega Bay area, but that's as far
north as I've been.

Here's one place you might want to avoid, even though it's in the opposite
direction. Gas prices are only $5.60/gallon.
