The upper gulf has so many great places to go and so many unpopulated barrier islands, but shallow draft is a basic requirement. My last boat drew 4'10" and that was far too much. Frank Scotty |

I like to head 'up creek', away from the weekend warriors. Scotty |

Less. The Chessy is shallow, and I'm a gunkholer at heart.
I only draw 3' 4''. NOW HEAR THIS: A Siedelmann 30 is the best choice for a shallow draft sailboat! Also, boats with 5 foot draft are not popular on the Chessy! Also, centerboards are not popular on the Chessy! So that leaves the Siedelmann 30! Best pick!!!! Seriously! RB 35s5 NY |

RB 35s5 NY Speaking of draft, I think you are running your bait too close to the surface. Not getting any good hook sets. I suggest you use a planer to run a little deeper. This may help. Next will be the typical "oh, but we've caught YOU!" posts even as I turn up the heat. Anyway...I'll be off sailing for the weekend, so they can all sit at home and wait for me to return. At least I'll post some sailing pics and vids to keep things lively here. RB 35s5 NY |
