Check out this bow.
http://www.bergenships.com/Bourbon%20Orca.html Perhaps Roger Long knows the proper name of this type of bow. (inverted maybe) There use to be a fleet of boats in the gulf that had the same type set-up, it was a company called Botruck. I wonder if it's a better ride? I heard the botrucks slammed pretty hard, but they did not have as narrow an entry. Anyone ever see a sailboat with this type of bow? Rec cruiser with one? Joe |

Used to be an old sailboat with this basic type of bow in Hyannis,
Ma.....name "Moby Dick"....if memory serves it was the first winner of the infamous "FAGAWI" race when it is just a wild freeforallletshavefun, started by Barney Baxter and a few other notables of Baxter's Boathouse Club back in the early 70's. Thanks for the link, I was right on the inverted bow name. They do alot of touting new innovations but the only true new tech is the stern roller assembly that rotates to a vertical position, thats a great feature, nothing worse than a stubborn anchor hooking the roller. Everything else is old tech, like diesel electric, the bow, the traveling cranes ect. ect. Still IMO it's a cool boat. Joe |

Now the older botrucks were the ugliest boat afloat, I imagine they are all gone now, as most were buildt in the 1950's. They had a normal bottom but everything above the waterline was inverted, I was told that in mild seas they rode well, but when in large seas they pounded so hard it would knock your teeth out slamming on the dash. The Orca looks like a canoe bow. Joe |
