goal for this year? Mine is transiting under sail a local inlet during
peak tidal flow. May not sound like much but it is a white knuckler
for me and will help build confidence. Let's hear about what you hope
for this year.

We're planning a couple of cruises this summer since Mr Sails doesn't
have to teach or take any classes...first will probably be out to
Ocracoke...I would like to sail up to Manteo, but there's some pretty
skinny water up there so we'll have to see...

Its not that skinny. The key is that it is consistently skinny with no real
drastic changes. Plenty of water on Albemarle Sound. My boat draws 5" and I
have had no problems.

Still lots of water. My fathers boat drew 6'4" and we did just fine. There is
a lot of commercial traffic, fishing boats and tugs that keep the
thoroughfares pretty clear. Ocracoke is a great place. Enjoy. Where is the
boat? What is it?

A few more races, develop a few more skills. There is always more to
learn.

What is your

That doesn't sound like a good idea. It would smarter to work up a
table of local observations to allow you to predict & work local
currents more accurately.

Except for the shallow spots, sure.

Plenty of water on Albemarle Sound. My boat draws 5" and I

Well, sure. Five inches is pretty shallow draft. There are quite a few
channels but also quite a few shoals around the whole NC coast,
although you're correct that the Albemarle is a bit less tricky than
most of the rest. Ever been up to Columbia? Pretty little town, great
anchorage. The waters around Currituck & Roanoke Island have a lot of
shoals and currents though.

Forget Manteo, then...will have t get a chart out and plot according to
the availibility of water...and lack of low bridges...I think we sit
right at 45 ft with the mast...naybe a bit more...

You don't think I know that having sailed a boat with a 6' draft all
these years? of course, taking that into consideration, the Neuse is a
potential killer of keels....we've only gone aground once there,

When we bought Chanteuse we had no idea we would ever be leaving Lake
Michigan and its feeder lakes, which are all deep water...even when the
lake levels drop, the water is nowhere near as skinny as down here...but
that's ok...we like our boat and like the way she sails...we don't like
heavy old cruisers like Catalinas and would never consider a Hunter of
that size...and Mr Sails is not a fan of any full keel boat...so...we
just make sure we have the alarm set on the depth gauge and watch the
charts...or take along someone who knows where the shoals are!

Almost any of the big six, late model, production boats are style over
substance. It's a shame but it's a fact. All of them from about 1990
onward are a waste of space. It demonstrates how ignorant the sailboat
buying public has become. They buy a boat as if it were a new dress. "I
look really good in this dress." That's what it's come to. Men who buy a
boat like a woman buys a dress. Every time somebody says to them, "Nice
boat," they swell up like a puffer fish. Never mind the fact the person
making the comment knows nothing other than lots of windows and a shine
on the plastic is what a boat's all about.

And they don't work for some reason! That site is a waste of my time.
Too complicated! I found an easier site. Here's the links and they seem
to work at least for now.

Yeah, too many people are inclined to go off the deep end.

What a nasty little cretin you are, Binary Bill. Encouraging the man
to post pictures here and then stalking him.

Why do you pretend to be a character from 'Silence of the Lambs' when
you're really one from 'South Park'?

I didn't say he was a *competent* stalker. He thinks I'm Doug King! He
can't even figure out which long time regular on this newsgroup owns
FJ 2102, a clear matter of class records. Hey Bitty Bill, here's
another hint: "FJ" stands for Flying Junior. It's a recognized
international class.

I'm Ted Bell!
Oh wait, no I'm not. Sorry.

There are only two and only one of the two is approximately the right
size.

Deal with it, chump.

CWM

Deal with what, jerk? You're just upset because you couldn't find my
name with the documentation. You had hoped I would reveal my whole name
so you could stalk the hell out of me. But I was smart enough not to
give my last name. If you weren't so stupid you'd know it's best to
register a yacht in the name of a corporation. You're so dumb you
mistake a corporation for a person's name? What a clown! So, if you
really want to see how big an asshole you are why not look up the owner
of the corporation? Huh huh? If you can find it you will see the
initials K.G.K. LOSER! Do you stalk underage girls too?

Careful there, Wilbur. Charlie thinks he's a dick. Well, he
is a dick head , but he fancies himself as the Dick Tracy of
the Internet. He's so good he even found my phone # in the
phone book. Although he did get Doug's phone and address
wrong. Guess he's more of a limp dick.
