We spent days sitting under the palapas watching the families playing in the water fighting off the pelicans who were trying to catch their dinner. The pelicans were dive bombing into the water everywhere, inches away from people who were just trying to cool off. We heard a lot of screams and men trying to drive them off but the pelicans never hurt anyone and never went away. What a show. I never saw a pelican eat anything but fish and shrimp. Yes, they do dive down and eat shrimp. too. Pelicans don't bite. But please don't try to get next to one of those big white herons with the sharp pointy beaks. They'll stab you with them. They can kill little dogs... Cheers, Ellen |
