I live in Ohio - so no oceans near by. Owning a large sail boat would

for the boat alone? And the difficulty of sailing around the world?
(Making plenty of stops to visit places, of course). I wouldn't want to
bring my wife if it would be something extremely dangerous.

greatly appreciate it!

Read Tanja Aebi's book first....it's dated now but still an accurate
rendition of that sort of endeavor and she was totally unexperienced when
she left...and no..there is noone in their right mind who would rent a
sailboat to someone with no experince (except maybe down in the Caribean
for charter...) 6 months? you'd never do it, especially if you stopped
here and there...and you can get a big boat and keep it on Lake
Erie..plenty of people sail out of Snadusky/Toledo area...

David, with all due respect anything is possible but having spent
considerable time at sea in the Navy it's my opinion that sailing
around the world on anything less than a cruise ship is idiotic. You
can't imagine what wind and sea conditions can get like when it's
bad. I have never seen a film or video that accurately portrays what
big seas really look like. Move closer to the water, buy a boat and
enjoy costal cruising.

Well, I think there's a huge difference between having to go (what the Navy
does) and wanting to go and being smart about when you go.

Thinking about someone sailing with no experience to deep waters is crazy.
with nobody else? All I invasion is someone falling overboard in rough
waters hooked to a tether dragging behind the boat as shark bait lol. It
would be better for him to charter a world trip with a experienced Capt.
and other sail boats. Then also with no sailing at all he may get sick Some
people just can not hack it. For someone new to the whole idea try a
charter first. There is a big difference between a Navy cruiser and a small
sailing craft.

I agree with a few aspects of what Mundo was saying ("follow your
dream", etc.), but I don't think you need to start out with a high-end,
complicated, high-tech boat such as the MacGregor 26. - Start with
an Island Packet, Swan, Valiant, Sabre, or the like, and then, when you
feel confident that you have mastered the basics, you might be ready to
move up to a MacGregor.

What are you talking about Nell? It's quite logical that he should start
with a good, but conventional boat, and then move up to a Mac. - Save
the best for last.
