OK, My displacement hull has no chance of steering on plane. I'd have
to be up and skiing on the board trunk/ keel, and if so the rudder
would be out of the water.

They are displacement, they will plane when surfing, and are perfectly
controllable when doing it.

Are you are talking about a semi displacment hull?
