Most haven't listened to Neal and his Sickness. Being pre-occupied with
with images of the way others look can be a SICKNESS. If it really
bothers you, it probable means you need help.

Here is a News Week article about it, just yesterday: 12/7/2006

------------------------------------------------------
Drink ice-cold water ("your body has to burn calories to keep your
temperature up") and hot water with bullion cubes ("only 5 calories a
cube, and they taste wonderful"). When a food craving strikes, give
yourself a manicure ("applying extra layers of slow-drying polish. It
will keep your hands occupied"). These kinds of tips are common fare in
the growing world of "pro-ana" (pro-anorexia) and "pro-mia"
(pro-bulimia) Web sites. More than 200 such sites now cater to the
estimated .5 to 1 percent of adolescent and adult women who are anorexic
and to the 1 to 2 percent who are bulimic.
Well intended or not, the sites are "not benign," says Dr. Rebecka
Peebles, a specialist in adolescent medicine at Stanford University's
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. In "Surfing for Thinness: A Pilot
Study of Pro-Eating Disorder Web Site Usage in Adolescents with Eating
Disorders," published this week in Pediatrics, the journal of the
American Academy of Pediatrics, she and her colleagues reported the
results of a survey of eating-disorder patients and their parents. They
found that patients who used pro-eating-disorder sites were sick longer
and spent less time doing schoolwork. Patients who used both
pro-eating-disorder and pro-recovery sites were admitted to the hospital
more times than nonusers.
Many experts find the pro-eating-disorder sites appalling. "It's one of
the few times in history that someone has come out and said that a very
dangerous illness is a good idea, and here's how to do it," says
Christopher Athas, vice president of the National Association of
Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. "They talk about First
Amendment rights. But this is like shouting fire ... These people with
these sites claim that they are representing a lifestyle, but they are
representing a dangerous illness." Researchers have demonstrated that
eating disorders can lead to anxiety, depression, alcoholism, substance
abuse, self-mutilation and suicide.
But the pro-ana and pro-mia sites, which the study says are more
numerous than pro-recovery sites, tend to gloss over that kind of
information-and the fact that people with anorexia are more than 56
times more likely than their peers to commit suicide, says Cynthia
Bulik, director of the eating-disorders program at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "People who are posting to these sites
are accomplices to suicide."
Such sites can interfere with treatment, especially during the first
year, when anorexics are at high risk for relapse, says Bulik. "It's a
high-risk cue, or a trigger," she says. "I don't think anorexia nervosa
is an addiction, but these sites have the ability to pull them into
something that's familiar and comfortable. You want your supportive
treatment team to be the strong voice in your head.
----------------------------------------------------
It is a good thing to remember; 'You are a one of a kind; just like
everybody else.'

It's only fatties who think the way you do, Tom. Ignore the obvious...... It's not your arms
getting shorter because you can't reach the food in the middle of the table anymore. Hee hee.
It's an eating disorder when a girl starves herself. But a man and his family can eat enough
for a small town, that's OK. But when they all end up morbidly obese that's normal. Yah right!

Cheers,
Ellen

I really do think Neal does need help. He can't even reply in his own
name to a discussion.

I think Neal is sicker than he realizes. I'm afraid that is all to
common with people with mental problems. The first necessary step to
their recovery is admitting they have a problem.

It may be to late already. He can't even admit to being Neal. He thinks
he is a famous female sailor that he so harshly use to criticizes.

Yes, I'm afraid our good CRAPTON has lost contact with reality. So sad

No Katy,

I think that "Shack-up" with LP and his experience with Base6 & meows
put him over the edge. Then Beaching himself has been more than he can
take.

The group is going to have to make allowance for him until he can find
an identity for himself

I think he is in need of help but can't admit to that need.

It would be a God Send if you were right but you know that he isn't
capable of admitting you are correct.

Why is it your so obsessed with Capt. Neal, Tom? You seem to see him everywhere
you look. Every other post you mention him. You think I'm him. Duh! I only wish. He
knows English better than my whole family put together. And he sounds like he could
sail circles around anybody here in this news group. Myself included And, didn't I
tell everybody I'm not the famous Ellen MacArthur, Dame Ellen MacArthur the sailor.
I just happen to have the same name. Is that a crime? And I posted pictures, lots of
them. Maybe you can't see them on your computer for some reason but that ain't my
fault.
Nope, Capt. Neal isn't posting here anymore. You should do some Googling, if you
know how. You'd see he's got a blog spot over in MSN live spaces. He sounds pretty
normal to me. He explained pretty well why there're no liberal sailors. Not to mention
he's cuter and younger than I thought unless that's a fake photo. He can't be all that
bad off if he can figure out how to work live spaces blogs. I tried and I couldn't
get it to even upload stuff. It said I had to download some program to upload photos
but the program wouldn't download at all. So I used badongo instead. It's easier. It
uploads photos without having to put any programs on my computer.
Have you ever tried fasting? It might clear some cobwebs outta your mind.

do some Goggling yourself missy. ''Capt'' Neal was at one
time a miserable old coot who complained and whined about
everyone and everything. His only saving grace was that he
lived on a boat and sailed once in a while.
But then he hooked up with a two-bit whore TV named LP. It
was all downhill after that. The low spot was when he joined
the 'flonkers' to try and disrupt this NG. Sadly, he is in
the 'loser column' now.

So? What's any of that got to do with me? You can call anybody a loser you

Capt Neal is a brilliant Master Mariner and Philosopher!

If he is not out sailing his fine blue water cruiser in foriegn waters then
he is traveling the country with his highly modified Airstream trailer. The
Airstream has a cedar bucket too - I've seen it with my own eyes!

Ellen is just some confused woman with a crush on Capt Neal. But then all
women harbor a crush on such a manly thinker and adventurer!

I keep in regular shortwave contact with the good Capt and know for sure he
is nowheres near an internet access point. He is spending several months on

Ole Thom,

I really have a lot of respect for you for all your sailing experience,
being a Korean War Veteran, surviving the hurricane of '38 and rescuing the
Ambrose light ship from German saboteurs. The good Capt Neal joined the
flonkers to infiltrate and disable them. That is why they have a price on
his head and they are mostly disbanded. His sailing skills are legendary. He
sails regularly and competently in the notorious Straits of Florida, a
stretch of water with the highest number of accidents and mishaps in the
world. Look at those pictures of his fine blue water cruiser. It is well
founded, well cared for and highly modified to enhance its cruising
abilities and seaworthiness. The good Capt's philosophy is one of rugged
individualism with special emphasis on self sufficiency. Not only is this
congruent, but it is essential for true mastery of the sea. Once or twice
the good Capt may have slipped up, but if you stand back and look at the
whole man in the context of really living you will be overcome with a
profound sense of admiration.

My sentiments exactly, Mr Gilligan. I wish *the good Capt.* would come back but I understand
why he'd rather be sailing. Given the choice between the two, he'd have to be an imbecile to stay
here. Even sailing in dangerous places is better than abuse from the pea brains and frauds that hang
out here. I wonder how long he was here?? He goes way back in a Google search. He musta had
superhuman patience to put up with these lame people for more than a couple years. I've only been
here a couple months and it's getting hard to stomach already.
The people here are outta touch with reality. Tom's got one foot in the grave so he can be forgiven.
It sounds like he used to sail (before he got so fat his boat capsized at the dock when he tried to step
aboard) and that's more than most of the others have done.
The others??? What's their excuse?
It's like they're all totally and constantly angry. They take it out on each other and subscribers
here. Joe's behavior lately is weird. Mr. Spamsom is right - it's psycho. Joe lives in Texas too. He could
be out sailing. The people who're up north don't have that luxury. So why's he so grouchy? It's his
own fault if he's too lazy or scared to go sailing. Why take it out on the news group?
And the abuse of new subscribers. I think they drive away new people because they're just plain
hateful of the whole world. They've been trying to drive me off from the start but they failed. Katy
especially hates me. It's because I can write a sentence without butchering it like she does. And, I'm
young and sexy. Makes her look bad. But, that's not my fault. She thinks it's OK to make it look like
all women are stupid and lazy. I don't think I should be sloppy and inept with my posts just because
it makes her uncomfortable to see a good one or because it makes her look bad.
In church they teach us to respect our elders. But how can I respect Katy when she's constantly
rude and catty. To get respect ya gotta be respectful. She could learn from Capt. Neal. He always

Ole Thom, I really have a lot of respect for you for all your sailing experience, being a Korean War Veteran,
surviving the hurricane of '38 and rescuing the Ambrose light ship from German saboteurs. The good Capt Neal joined
the flonkers to infiltrate and disable them. That is why they have a price on his head and they are mostly disbanded.
His sailing skills are legendary. He sails regularly and competently in the notorious Straits of Florida, a stretch of
water with the highest number of accidents and mishaps in the world. Look at those pictures of his fine blue water
cruiser. It is well founded, well cared for and highly modified to enhance its cruising abilities and seaworthiness.
The good Capt's philosophy is one of rugged individualism with special emphasis on self sufficiency. Not only is this
congruent, but it is essential for true mastery of the sea. Once or twice the good Capt may have slipped up, but if
you stand back and look at the whole man in the context of really living you will be overcome with a profound sense of
admiration.

When Capt Neal ran this fine group people sailed more often. They would
literally throw down their keyboards and run for their boats. He was a great
motivation for all.

Back then there were less overweight people on the newsgroup. The good Capt
ran a tight ship and people stayed in line. The discussions were very
philosophic and applicable to life in general. People came from far and near
in response to the good Capt's musings. People became very excited,
sometimes before he had even spoken! Yes, he could readily fan the flames of
passion and stir the emotions!

Things started to change when President Bush gave him free government pills.
I think there was something in those pills. Today, the good Capt leads a
live of vigor and purification. He does not take the government pills. He
does not indulge in rich foods. His life is simple, yet so complete.
Everyone awaits his return.
