Default Yanmar engine oil

Anyone using synthetic motor oil? API of CD, CE, higher? Can you use a C*-4?
Anyone else have a 2GM20F engine?

TIA

I have a Yanmar 2GM and I just buy a top quality 30W regular oil which
is what Yanmar recomends. I also use a Yanmar filter but have also
used FRAM.

Is 30W for the engine?
Here's what the paperwork I have says:

Selection of Engine Lube Oil: API: CD, SAE Viscosity: 15W40
Selection of Oil for Marine Gear: SAE Viscosity: 30
Sail Drive: Viscosity: 90 or 80W90

from Yanmar manual;

use oil with a rating higher than SAE class CC

oils they recommend;

below 10*C --------20-30*C
Shell Rotella 10 - 20 -------30
Mobil Delvac 20 -40-------30
RPM Delo Marine Oil 10 -20 -----30

Do you want to borrow my manual?

I too have been using 30W. However its a real pain to change. I've
recently been talking to some motorcycle enthusiasts and they claim
that with the premium synthetic oils they need only change it every few
years - it just doesn't breakdown in the same way a normal oil does.
So the question is whether this is any this applicable to the yanmars?
A friend of mine speculated that with this type of diesel motor the oil
becomes contaminated more readily and thus would require changing
regardless.

Can anyone provide some insight?

I do. It comes in blue gallon jugs. It's for diesel 18-wheelers. It's
the best stuff for any diesel motor. I found a half a gallon on the road
one time. I put some on my rusty bike chain. It turned all black but got
rid of the rust and it lasted forever.

Cheers,
Ellen

Not sure of the actual viscosityof Delo 100. Long time ago when I was
researching diesel lubricants it was RPM Delo. good stuff thpough, even
then. sure to be better now.
