Our New Sails....on the way!

Yup....and I posted 3 pics showing the same hoist point....and mine is
the same. So you're maintaining that the hoist is short on ALL 4 BOATS,
right???

It's an indicator that every 35s5 owner may require Viagra to get their
"Hoist" up all the way.

Next we'll have Bobsprit posting about his "Ultra Thin, Ribbed" sails... for
"her" pleasure.

No, but the Harken Battcars slide easily....for her pleasure!

Huh? Could explain just what the backstay has to do with the length of

Martin, the headboard has to able to clear the backstay at the top of
the mast. My headboard cannot go to the very top of the groove because
it would foul the backstay. My Kevlar main has a bit more roach than a
standard main, so she'll actually have more Sq. feet than the standard.

If I understand this, you mean that if you hoisted the main originally
supplied by Benny, then the headboard would hoist to the black band on
the mast? No main hoists to "very top" of the groove, that I know of,
which is why that black band is on the mast, manufacturers take the
headboard/roach/backstay into account when they put that band there.

Cheers
Marty

That's why there's a little piece of metal sticking out of
the back of the mast at the top, to fasten the backstay to.

In fact it is so well known (by people that sail in the real
world, as opposed to the Matrix) that Hall Spars features it
on their logo
http://www.hallspars.com/Nav_Images/btnLogo.gif

This is called the 'crane' and any headboard should easily
clear it.

Modern boats with a lot of roach often carry a springy piece
of fiberglass across the top of the mast to 'pluck' the
backstay out of the way when there is less tension on it.

Got it? I posted 4 photos so far showing the true hoist, which is about

a foot or so below the top of the mast. Sloco actually (see his posts)
that ALL of these boats have mains with the wrong hoist. I have the
original Beneteau main in my sail-locker and the hoist is the same as
the Kevlar sail.
Like I said, Sloco sure knows boats! If he had quickly googled up a few

pics he would have spotted his mistake. Now I get to blast him for it
forever!

So what are you saying here Boobie ......... Beneteau designed the rig
and put the black band in a spot that required a main with a teeny
headboard and no roach? You sure can come up with some good ones.
Face it all the boats in the photos you posted have mains that were cut
too short. The black band is no where near the top of the mast groove.
It's easy to see in the photos that the designer DID leave room above
the black band for the headboard. Give it up dimwit you are the one
who's busted.

Maybe Sloco could use your old sails to re-upholster the interior
of his boat. I know he's been shopping for fabric! The mildew would
blend right in.

Charles, I already did my new interior using Sunbrella furniture
fabric.

Exactly! And this is why it's obvious that the sailmaker that made the
Boob's "deal" sails screwed up.

What a dope. My boat has TWO black bands. Better still I just posed a
pic showing a boat also with TWO. Different sails can have altered
hoists, especially when roach is added that needs to clear the
backstay. Cry all you want. I now have better boat, better sails and
better cars!

This has to be the most telling post ever. What boat has 2 black
bands near the top of the mast to indicate mainsail hoist? Does the
fact that you have 2 mean the Beneteau brochure lists 2 mainsail luff
measurements for this unusual yacht? Gee, what would you put on your
PHRF cert? How would a competitor know if your main was legal? What a
dope!

By the way it's obvious that the Boob doesn't know where full hoist of
a mainsail occurs and secondly he doesn't know the difference between
the masthead and the black band. What a dope.
