Well, as usual, while I ordered new sails for the 35s5, I stumbled
across these sails USED but graded by the loft 8 out 10 in what they say is great condition. http://www.somersetsails.com/sails/Beneteau__35S5.jpg These are the sails being sold.... I can get them for 2K, but are these fragile sails that won't last very long? The genoa is Pentax Mylar and the main is Kevlar. Anyone have experience with these higher-tech sails? RB 35s5 NY |

![]() Don't bother Bob, they are a PITA to use and performance sails. You honestly don't need the performance nor the aggravation. Hi, Ozzy....specifically what do you mean? Are these just not going to be good day-to-day sails compared to a standard dacron set because they'll delaminate fast? I'm about to spend 4K on a main and 110% with the stackpack and that's with my dealer discount. What about just the Kevlar main? Might that be worth getting? Is it more durable than the pentax mylar? Thanks, RB |

![]() Are you buying the dacron sails? I'd maybe be tempted by the headsail, but leave that kevlar PITA to someone with a race crew onboard. I'm meeting with Mark P. of Doyle later this week to look over my rig. My old mylar is OLD and the 110 is shot. The Mylar main is also done. Why is the kevlar main a PITA? I'd think that the pentax mylar genoa would be more fragile and take a bigger beating. The Kevlar main would still work with the stackpack. RB |

Why is there a 'B' on the sail if it's on a Mac26X ?

![]() the stackpack and that's with my dealer discount. So you are a stackpack dealer? Nope. I negotiated a deal with Doyle and my club for discounts to members. I can also get a Dutchman for 25% off and no tax, if I wanted one. I also have a lesser deal with UK sails, but some folks really like their stuff, even though it's pricey. I went for the stackpack because it works with multiple mains, fully protects the main and is fully convirtible. Both the stackpack and the Dutchman are great, but the stackpack is just more capable. We have a Tartan 37 here which had the choice and also went with the stackpack after trying both. However, the owner of the H43 here didn't like the height of the doyle system since he's barely 5'5 tall. RB 35s5 NY |

Well, you are really showing us how little you know about sails if you have
to even ask these questions. You go out for short daysails with your wife and kid and you are talking about Mylar, Dacron etc when all you need for what you do is a decent set of ordinary sails. My boat came with many sails from its days as a round-the -buoys racer and I have, among other sails two nice Mack and Doyle Mylar genoas in my basement and four huge spinnakers none of which will ever see the light of day unless I decide to take extra crew aboard since normally I cruise my 38 footer with just my wife as crew and neither of us is exactly young. You should get used to the idea that you are just a family day sailer and not even likely to become a serious cruising man for a few years yet. "Capt. Rob" wrote in message oups.com...
