As we stood looking out at the Gulf, he reminisced about the last time he was in the Gulf, the day the war in Korea was announced. He was a very young sailor, stationed in Pensacola and they had been doing training for days. It was a beautiful day and all the sailors were wondering why on such a day they were not engaged in some important naval lesson. Then the loud speaker broke the silence, and it was announced that "we are at war." Dad said he was happy to be a sailor on that day.
