the distress signal (...---...) came first, after the
original distress signal (CQD[?]) was deemed to be too confusing. It just so happens that the signal represented SOS. It was later that someone coined the Save Our Ship phrase. This was on the History Channel a while ago. Scotty "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Is that were SOS came from? or was it save our souls? Joe |

Correct Scotty.... they were selected to indicate a distress because, in Morse code, these letters and their combination create an unmistakable sound pattern.
