Default Internation Distress Signals

A white flag on a French boat = surrender.

Easy Points for those of you who are POINTLESS.

For 1 point, name one of the many International
Distress Signals.

I can think of more than a dozen.

Bonus: 2 points. Which one do you think would
most likely be used in Texas?

Oh c'mon don't be stingy. He even posted the code. You gave
Jeff 2 points for his answer.

Did anybody mention signalling with a mirror? The orange
distress flag? I did see an answer with some reference to
orange smoke but can't remember who it was.

There is also a device intended for signaling aircraft, it's
a huge floating banner that is reflective orange with the
black square & ball symbols. I have one but IIRC it's not an
approved signalling device. Seems pretty likely to get
attention though.

I know that one. It's a barrel of burning oil on deck. But, you couldn't
use it in California or they'd fine you for air pollution.

Cheers,
Ellen

Incorrect. Smoke is a valid answer--not fire.

Of course, if there is fire, then I'm thinking people on other boats would
conclude there's a problem.

Those things really stink and would leave a sooty mess on your hull....
