Scotty wrote: Jon, just curious, how did you find your Sabre? Have you been looking long? Scotty I've been looking (seriously looking) since last Winter. I was looking less seriously for about a year total.. work kept getting in the way. Typically out here Spring through Summer isn't a good time to buy a boat... lots of buyers, not many sellers, so they jack up the price. I pretty much gave up last month, figuring I'd wait until the next low season in Nov thru March. I was browsing through the electronic edition of Latitude 38 (www.lat38.com) and saw the listing. I had heard Sabres, but never sailed on one before. Gave him a call, turns out a death in the family precipitated the sale. Sad really, and the owner was really a nice guy. He was asking a fair price, and after inspection, I offered him a bit less than the asking. He accepted it, we arranged a sea trial, and at the conclusion I gave him a deposit and we arranged for a haul/survey. About a week prior to the survey, he called me up, very apologetic, saying that he had mis-represented the boat... listed it as a 1985, when in fact it was a 1983. I told him that I was still very interested, and he immediately took $2K off the agreed upon price, and he offered to pay for the survey. He even paid for the engine oil analysis. I think I'd like to stay in touch with him. He just about broke down when I handed him the final check. -- Capt. JG @@ www.sailnow.com |
