Hey, Ringmaster....

Can you explain why Mistral, a Beneteau 35s5 has the following race
record?

Overall Winner of SE Florida PHRF Championship series 2002
Overall Winner, Regatta Time in Abacos 2003
Overall Winner, Hospice Regatta 2002
Numerous 1st place trophies in Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association
races and regattas, second overall 2003
Third place trophy at Key West Race Week 2003

She's a part time raced boat and has beaten your beloved Express 35
boat for boat. How could this happen?

Yep, but it doesn't mean a 35s5 should be able to beat a Express 35
boat for boat. Can you explain that for us, Marty?
BTW, did you look to see if all the races were PHRF C??? Hmmm?

Uh oh! There's life in this old troll yet!!!

Has anyone else noticed that almost every 35s5 victory that RB cites
is actually the same boat and skipper. No doubt he is a talented
skipper and has a good crew. In addition, I've seen this boat
showcased by a major rigger as being completely tricked out. This
doesn't imply that it the Bene is a great boat, it implies that a
talented skipper with deep pockets can beat his rating.

LOL! That boat is for sale at 67.5K and has a set of UK sails and a
radar arch. That's soooo tricked out! Here's the details....

4 ft wheel helm on pedestal with auto pilot and cruising spade rudder
Leaf batten dacron main and 2006 135% genoa with foam luff for reefing
on Harken system, Beneteau emblem Gennaker, 1.5 oz spin, storm main and
storm jib
Radar arch with wind generator and solar panel
SSB radio and backstay antenna
Cockpit bimini, dodger, hatch screen, cloth window and instrument
covers
Single handedly cruised throughout the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Lesser
Antilles between 1999 and 2001.
Tell us, Jeff, is it the SSB that gives her the edge?
Jeff, there was a very tricked out boat I listed with many wins in
Europe, and no one even noticed. Then again, boats around here that win
tend have better newer gear as well.

Hey, Ringmaster....

What is the name of the boat.

You could be talking about two different ones.

I believe Jeff anyway.

Jeff August 22nd 06 12:45 AM

Hey, Ringmaster....

Doesn't sound like the same boat. The "Mistral" I saw was on the
cover of the rigger's catalog with a long list of racing enhancements.
It sounds like you're very confused. Perhaps Setzer has an older
cruising boat he's unloading.

I don't have the bandwidth on the boat to track down the reference for
you. I'll leave that to a landlubber.

BTW, are you claiming that the best racers prefer the 4 foot wheel?

Jeff, on board Loki, Hadley's Harbor

PS for DSK: I'm on a mooring next to a Herreshoff S-Boat. Pics to follow.
