Hope someone can help.....
My parents owned a C+C 25 (Sold now) and I am going to buy a used boat in the spring. I want something that sleeps at least 2 but I need a boat that performs well. (I want fast but I don't really plan to race) I am thinking 20-26' and depending on what I earn the over the coming months I will be looking to spend 5-10K. Still have to determine if I want swing or fixed keel. I plan to sail Georgian Bay 30,000 Islands. I will research whatever boat you tell me but far my list includes: CS C+C Shark (I am not sure if a Grampion would be to heavy for my liking) Thanks in advance. |

Don't buy anything with a cockpit shorter than 7'6". The means no daysailers
shorter than 12 feet or Beneteaus of any length. |

(I want fast but I don't really plan to race) What do you mean by "Sleeps 2"? Do you want two berths, neither of which has a porta-potty under it? Would you be happy sleeping under a boom tent or even on shore in a tent? Boats that "sleep 2" or 4 or 6 or whatever vary very highly. In England (where they are crazy) people cruise stromy rocky coasts in 16' open daysailors for fun. Google up a cruise from Scotland to Iceland in a Wayfarer... I kid you not. You mmight be more impressed by Bob Manry & 'Tinkerbelle' (still a great read after all these years). Other than that they are heavy & cramped & very dated. Fun to sail, for all that, tho' You might look into C&C's Mega 30, trailerable with a lift keel and relatively fast. On the much much smaller end of the spectrum, a Holder 20 (real sleeper here), Santana 21 (older swing keel boat, pretty fast even by today's standards), any of the S2 models, Dehler (generally hot boats) made a few swing-keel and lift-keel models in that size range, Jeanneau and Beneteau both. What you will find available on the market is largely a function how seriously you search and how far you're willing to travel. There is no point in researching every boat ever built and saying, "Aha, the *perfect* boat would an XYZ 23" and then realizing there are none for sale, or perhaps two each 1000 miles away. (I am not sure if a Grampion would be to heavy for my liking) If you think it might be, then it probably would be. Never heard they were known for fast boats. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |
