If you want to capture the feeling of ownership, you can come over, help me sand & varnish. Or if you'd rather, another ongoing project is laying up carbon fiber on the new dinghy. Or just come visit me and actually go sailing without any of that work. My dinghy and the little Yamaha 8 is sitting at the dinghy dock as well. RB 35s5 NY |

Honesty! Compliments! Admitting the 35s5 may not be the fastest! Hey, your have to admit...I handled it perfectly and stuck with the facts. That drives Doug out his tiny mind! He's now busy, VERY busy trying to defend his TRAWLER in a thread on fast sailboats in a sailing forum!!! His best comment was on how so many sailors "won't admit" that a trawler is a good idea, while ignoring the fact that taking the train may also be more practical...and about as much fun as the trawler! He's stamped POWERBOAT on his own forehead and all I did was give him the ink. Poor Doug got no help from Scotty Potty or anyone else either! Won't someone please defend his trawler in a sailing NG???? Ahhh, aint life grand?!! RB 35s5 NY |

Last time I sailed a Laser, we were at a fancy sailing resort. It took a while to shake off the cobwebs but by the end of the day, I'd won a bottle of champagne which we enjoyed at dinner. This was in a fleet that included a couple of college sailors. Another of the racers was the professional captain of a 100' custom Swan, one of the few professional yacht captains I've met who was a cut-throat dinghy racer. It was a lot of fun. This was one of the warm-up races, with the college sailors. I bet a few people in this group will instantly recognize where this place is. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...35692614puwYVp Ok, I have to claim ignorance. Where is this? A sailing resort that rents Lasers and Hobie Waves? Tell me more. So I take it you you don't have the Johnson 18 anymore? //Walt |

It's at the eastern end of Virgin Gorda, open the to trade winds and sheltered water of Drake Sound. I think the sailing end of it is tapering off due to lack of public interest, although it's a fine place to sail or windsurf & they have everything from an Express 37 9costs extra), J-24s (free), Lasers, Vanguard 15s, Hobie Getaways and Waves, and a variety of kayaks, windsurfers etc etc. It's also not a bad place to go snorkeling. I've been hoping a sailing resort would pop up on the Gulf coast... someplace with good wind... but so far I don't know of one. It's awesome to be able to have a comfy room, good meals, and walk down to the beach and pick your weapon for the day (or for the hour). So I take it you you don't have the Johnson 18 anymore? Nope, it has reluctantly gone to a good home. Right now I'm looking for something like a Melges 24 only cheaper (and hopefully a bit less labor intensive). Maybe one of these: http://tinyurl.com/zqxpx http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/High-...QQcmdZViewItem There are several for sale not too far from us. |

I really admire him for his rational, practical thinking. Plus he is not apologetic about his choices. He thinks for himself and I consider that a vary good essential trait. I don't always agree with his choices, but I do have high respect for them. |

"Swab Rob" wrote In any case, this is alt.SAILING.asa and you're a powerboat 100% now. Others are polite about it, but absolutley no one truly believes the BS about why you dropped the dream of a cruising sailboat. Don't even pretend to speak for the ''rest of us here''. Why don't you poll the people here , ask them who they think is a better sailor, you or Doug? -- Scotty.....''One who never gets out of the Sound cannot, with any degree of credibility, comment on the courage of fellow sailors'' |

Well said, but his trawler has about as much place here as does a discussion on the Sienna beating 2006 Kia Sedona. Then why do you keep bringing it up? Jealousy is my guess DSK |
