Fast Sail Boats of ASA
Yep. I chose a power boat that was the most practical for the type of cruising we want to do. Total bull**** from Doug. He could have cruised on a sailboat. He simply chose to "drive" over sailing. The folks I know who are retired and cruising for real would never consider a powerboat unless their health was a factor. Are you damaged in some way? RB 35s5 NY |

That's because they're dumb. Most cruisers I've ever talked to complain about how often they had to motor (wind too light, too strong, wrong direction), they need a bigger fridge, they ran aground too often, had to wait for bridges, couldn't make it to a good anchorage, batteries not holding a charge, etc etc etc. A trawler makes the most sense for the type of cruising we do, so that's what we got. So far, it's been great, and we're just getting started. DSK |

We have quite a few cruisers and liveaboards here as well as passing through. Some chose sail and others chose motorsailors. I can easily see the appeal of the latter. And if my arms or back were badly compromised I might choose power rather than having nothing at all. But to be stuck on a boat that can NEVER cruise without the sound of the motor churning away, spewing filth into the air and water? No thanks! That's not what it's all about, Doug. Sorry you need a bigger fridge and have so many bridges to get by. I guess that rules out a sailboat because you MUST be at the anchorage by 3:00 sharp with fresh batteries. Great woogily boogers! In any case, this is alt.SAILING.asa and you're a powerboat 100% now. Others are polite about it, but absolutley no one truly believes the BS about why you dropped the dream of a cruising sailboat. Ever hear of a Nauticat or any of the other motorsailors out there? Some people have enough character that a small fridge wouldn't keep them from a sailboat, Doug. Keep dreaming, Doug. But it does sound like even you have given up on what you truly want. RB 35s5 NY |

So far, it's been great, and we're just getting started. It's been great??? Doing what? Turning the key and DRIVING noisily, leaving a cloud behind you? Yep, sounds great. Vroom. RB 35s5 NY |

Fortunately, I have the mechanical skills to keep our boat quiet & clean. Maybe someday you will learn. In any case, this is alt.SAILING.asa and you're a powerboat 100% now. Not really. And if SAILING is the key to entry then why are you here, Bubbles? Others are polite about it, but absolutley no one truly believes the BS about why you dropped the dream of a cruising sailboat. What makes you think I "dreamed" of a cruising sailboat? It has been more than "a dream" for several decades now. .... Ever hear of a Nauticat or any of the other motorsailors out there? Yes. Your point? Keep dreaming, Doug. Some dream, others do. .... But it does sound like even you have given up on what you truly want. Not at all, Bubbles, not at all. DSK |

through. Some chose sail and others chose motorsailors. Then there's you (unfortunately). Notice how poor Doug has now fallen to just make silly insults. He's failed on making any points at all.... Simply because he ended up as a powerboater. It's no one's fault but your own, Doug. No go by 100 gallons of diesel!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! RB 35s5 NY |

I made the point that you know nothing about cruising... of course you missed the point because you know nothing about cruising. ....No go by 100 gallons of diesel!!! Why? We only buy fuel once a year, and it's much more than 100 gallons. Does that seem like a lot to you? The tugboat's range allows us to buy the best fuel at the best price along the seaboard... and get in a nice cruise along the way there & back. DSK |

Not at all. I made the point that you know nothing about cruising... of course you missed the point because you know nothing about cruising. I have very limited cruising experience. I've only made 4 day trips at the most. I've not taken long sailing trips. But I'd still NEVER buy a powerboat, Doug. NEVER ever. And I'm sure you must be aware that some people, like me, would prefer to sail over anything else. You or "someone" felt differently Why? We only buy fuel once a year, and it's much more than 100 gallons. Does that seem like a lot to you? Yup. It's disgusting, just like powerboating itself. I prefer to sail, Doug. It's really as simple as that. You prefer to use an engine. RB 35s5 NY |

I prefer to sail, Doug. It's really as simple as that. Then why don't you? For example, there are many active Laser fleets near you. You could really gain some skills checking in with them. Last time I sailed a Laser, we were at a fancy sailing resort. It took a while to shake off the cobwebs but by the end of the day, I'd won a bottle of champagne which we enjoyed at dinner. This was in a fleet that included a couple of college sailors. Another of the racers was the professional captain of a 100' custom Swan, one of the few professional yacht captains I've met who was a cut-throat dinghy racer. It was a lot of fun. This was one of the warm-up races, with the college sailors. I bet a few people in this group will instantly recognize where this place is. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...35692614puwYVp ... You prefer to use an engine. Nothing like a good engine when you want to get somewhere. Stick to daydreaming Bubbles. DSK |
