While I've been yapping on endlessly about the 35s5's virtues and
features, I have noted one issue with the boat. Unlike most of the folks here I'll actually admit to a fault in myself (rarely required) or in a vessel I own. The 35s5 has nice room for such a fast boat and we are continuously pleased with her. But there is certainly one area where she comes up "short." The V Birth is really barely big enough for anyone to close to 6 feet and a an adult couple might be pretty challenged up there. It's just fine for two kids...which is what we wanted it for, or even a couple of girlfriends (both around 5'7 each) who stayed on the boat, but it's hardly what I'd call a generous cabin. With the head aft, I would have sacrificed the forward closet space or even a bit of the main cabin to make the forward bunks 6 inches longer. In any case....it's the one real flaw in her design even if it's shared by so many others. The aft cabin is one of the few where Suzanne and I can sleep together in comfort and it's two opening ports have worked well for keeping the air moving....though it would have been rough there today. Although the front berth is small, I'm 6'1" and it's a little tight,
sleeping in the rear is a problem because of the stern slap. . Whenever we're at anchor the noise generated by the smallest wave will wake you. I've seen loads of ideas on how to stop the slap but some are too far fetched or just stupid. We've been sleeping forward for 9 years and haven't looked back. Another problem with the front berth is that little half moon device to even out the berth. If you insert it you can';t open the door. We take the door off before we retire both as a safety measure and as a way to get to the cabin during the night. As far as being reliable, no problems in 15 years. Tilghman Island Chesapeake |

sleeping in the rear is a problem because of the stern slap. We read about the stern slap...a problem on many boats with platforms and scoops, but it hasn't been a problem yet. We've only slept at anchor a few times, but the boat rides the mooring nicely. We found the sound of water on the sterm soothing when we did hear it. Some folks pull a fender underneath to cut the sound. We do hear the slapping more at the slip where the boat catches wake. Love the boat thus far! RB 35s5 NY |
