The lower oxygen content makes for bluer water. The LIS is oxygen depleted
due to heavy concentrations of fecal coliforms and bacycotrix enemousa.
Studies have showm methan beds forming on the floor of the sound.

Interesting, but then why would Mooron be so dead set on wanting his
water bluer than mine??!!!

Water color is usually the result of the type of algae that is growing in
the water...Lake Michigan has a very specific algae that blooms in September
making the llake the mst beautiful teal blue color while it is usually
stone gray or olive green during the other months.

Can certain types of mold make boat cushions turn mauve?

I was wondering if the green water, which is admittedly less appealing than
blue (to me), has been exasperated by our nasty, polluting ways. Or has the
Jersey shore has been green for many millennia?

Maybe the water is always bluer on the other side.

Many variables.

I thought it was very interesting sailing in the Keys and in the Gulfstream,
the water changed from a yellowish/green to green, blue, turquoise and then
when in the Gulfstream, the water was actually purple!

No, not unless you are calling Capt. Neal mold. I'm not sure he's that old
to mold yet...but close! :-)
