says children are at a very high risk for heat stroke.
For Mooron and Bob to suggest a child needs to wear a PFD at all
times...it's not only ignorant, we've never observed anyone who does
that. It's just not possible, let alone smart.

Next you'll be saying child seats and seatbelts are optional.

So now you have admitted several times that it is your practice for your kid
not to wear a lifevest.

If kids are at risk for heat stroke for wearing a safety device then don't
take them sailing. You always have the option of leaving them home. Or below
deck.

You are a monster for putting your kid at risk.

If anything did happen would you be able to live with the guilt?

Don't force the kid into dangerous situations. Leave him ashore.

Utter nonsense. Taking even a short cruise means weather presents
certain risks ALWAYS. A wise parent doesn't mindlessly follow rules
that could prove to be dangerous in certain situations. You are not
only not a boater, but clearly not an educated parent.

You are a monster for putting your kid at risk.

YOU are the monster for suggesting a child should be put at risk for
heat stroke and even death by wearing a lifejacket at times when it's
not needed. A wise parent looks at ALL the conditions and makes a
judgement. Your advice is both robotic and mindless.

If anything did happen would you be able to live with the guilt?

Anytime you step into a car, boat or even outside your door there is a
risk...and few as great as putting a child in car. Unlike you Thomas
will grow up to be a man. We'll protect him as we see fit, not based on
some mantra chanted by followers. Bob, me thinks it's a good thing you
never procreated.

Don't force the kid into dangerous situations. Leave him ashore.

Yep, I know a few people like you. They have no problem putting their
children into a car and yet wonder if Thomas is in serious danger
aboard a sailboat. What awful cowards such as Bob exist in our
time...and they only wish to make more cowards of the youth around
them. In it's own way it's an inate jealousy, though not one that I can
understand.

The worst kind of coward is the type who wants everyone to share his
fears. I'm glad Thomas is not exposed to anyone like you.
Even for a troll, your post exposes a lot about you...and I'm surprised
you made such a post.

Also, they make small auto-inflatables, which would negate any
"heat-related" concerns.

Thom,

A legal PFD is required to be worn by children by state law whenever the
child is above-decks. Adults are not required to wear them, although it's
a
good idea. Obviously, there are circumstances when wearing a PFD is a
greater hazard than not wearing them, but I would guess this is pretty
rare
for a child, and I seriously doubt anyone would be cited in such a
circumstance. Obviously, climbing a mast it would be a hazard, but this
is
not something a four-year old would be doing. I'm hard-pressed to think
of a
situation where it would be more of a hazard than not for a small child,
however. There are several models of jacket which are legal for both
children and adults that work well in hot weather. It isn't up to the
child
to determine when or when not to wear a PFD.

Robert is just making excuses. The kids rule on Roberts watch, they
scream it's hot, and un-confortable, that spongebob sucks and they
throw a fit and toss the PFD's on deck.

Hot...Bull****. We grew up on the waters from as early as I can
remember, and it's a hell of a lot hotter here, and we had to wear
lifejackets (those bright orange mae west types) As we became better
swimmers we were allowed to use ski belts while sking. You just did it,
and you did not dare to take them off.

Seems Robert knows nothing about being a real Capt, or Father.

Bob,

An approved, legal Life Jacket on every child under 13 should do it. A
life jacket Coast Guard approved on a kid under 13, in 90 degree heat
should make sailing a PITA for Kids. Should make them hate any kind of
boating. Less boaters===easy life for the Coasties.

Go watch the "Weekly Beer Can" races and count the crews with and
without Life Jackets. Check American Cup Crews, how many wear Life
Jackets? Even Coast Guard Crews in plus 90 degrees weather.

Hell, a man going up a mast to make repairs is a hazard wearing a LJ.

I'm not damning Life jackets; I am damning stupid Laws that are written
without making good sense. Written without any real thought of being
enforced.

I don't own a boat.

I don't have kids.

You let Thomas dictate what is right or wrong.

What cars do you drive? hmmm?

The highest crash rated tanks around - KIA and Tribeca.

You, sir, are not only a hypocrite, but a coward of unequalled magnitude.

Once again, you steam rolled yourself!

But it doesn't have "Sponge Bob" on it.

Funny isn't it?

Bob sponging off his and Suzettes family.

Sponge Bob, sponge.

Yeah, it's a shame that we need such laws because of a few
neglectful parents such as boobspit.
