Here the moon just rose, now its blood red, full as can be. The warm
seabreeze is picking up smartly. I have another jigger of martini in
the boat.. skipper has his jacket on and is barking and I'm heading out
for a nite sail.

Have fun drooling in your pillow Robbie.

Bu bye.

Hey, first Joe says he doesn't like just sailing locally...and now
after we go for a short sail he's out TWICE!!! Ummmm...okay, sure....we
all believe that!
Only fools sail and drink, especially at night. Such bad seamanship.
But then you're not actually sailing anywhere and now you'll have to
respond to this much later so it looks like you left! At least it's
safe to drink, so you're only half lying.
And dude, what's with your spelling. It smacks of a total lack of
education. Those are not typo's. They are the spelling and ill diction
of a man who never made it beyond the 5th grade.
But it's true...we aren't sailing tonight. Our daysail was just fine
and we just watched the Neil Young documentary on our 10 foot wide
screen. Got one of those, Joe...or maybe you hate music and cinema
along with daysailing...!

Good lord....I haven't stomped anyone so easily since Mooron admitted
the Nordica workmanship was shoddy on the Nordica website! Will any of
you EVER learn?

My mind CONTAINS your minds. Tell 'em Bob Crantz. They need
help...perhaps Joe most of all.

Two goldfish in a fishbowl are talking. The first one says, "Sure there must
be a god". The second one says, "How do you know?" The first one
replies,"Who do you think feeds us?".

RB, your mind is far too powerful for most here to even conceive of, let
alone challenge and defeat. With Joe, it is like an ant against a Saturn 5
rocket. The ant can never realize the size of the rocket in its entirety or
its total blast power. Its size and power extend beyond the ant's universe.
Instead RB, be gentle and kind.

P/S It has been over 100 degrees F in Texas. Night sailing in that kind

Right you are Thom. In days of yore sailing was a hardy proffession with no
luxury, let alone comfort. Looking forward to the rum ration was a high
point of the day, much like people looking forward to their small bag of
peanuts and 1/2 can of soda on an airline flight.

RB can only associate liquor with excess. Real manly men can and do hold
their liquor. Mooron holds it with both hands. RB is not a sailor nor a
manly man and I don't think he can even fit into an airline seat.

You got it Ol Thom...Sailing after the blazing sun sets is the way to
go here. We
had very light winds and 95 degrees until after sunset. We usually
switch to night sailing around July 4th.

The seabreeze after dark was perfect, the moon was bright, the sky was
crystal clear, saw a few shooting stars. Got to stress test the new
rudder somewhat. Had the new main on, but still using the snipe jib
(can't find where I stashed that harkin roller furler base) Hope to
have everything ship shape tonight.

After some years as a bouncer, I've probably heard every excuse there
is to drink and operate a car, boat and even a motorcycle. The most
common is the "I've been doing it for XX amount of years and I've been
fine."
Well, that's great. But too many people haven't been fine and have hurt
themselves and others. The bottom line is that no one drinks on my boat
while underway. As you've seen from the many pics, no one has had a
problem with this. Go sailing, clear your head and the bloodstream
while you're at it.
Now that Thomas is aboard if I see anyone drinking while piloting a
boat, I will report them without hesitation. Drinking and operating ANY
kind of vehicle is both childish and foolish. It's also selfish.
I did my fair share of drinking, Thom. Then I grew up and realized even
moderate drinking is better left behind. I haven't regretted that
decision for a moment. It's very depressing to find a person drinks,
smokes or voted for Bush these days.

Scotty;

I guess Nutsy is left "Stomping By Himself"

" Old Ironsides" My Kind of ship. Hey Mooron, Top This!!

The U.S.S. Constitution, as a combat vessel carried 48,600 gallons of
fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and men. This was sufficient to
last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no
evaporators (fresh water distillers). However, let it be noted that
according to her log, "On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed
from Boston with a full complement of 475 officers and men, 48,600
gallons of fresh water, 7,400 cannon shot, 11,600 pounds of black powder
and 79,400 gallons of rum."
Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping."
Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300
gallons of rum. Then she headed for the Azores, arriving there 12
November. She provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of
Portuguese wine. On 18 November, she set sail for England. In the
ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-war and captured and
scuttled 12 English merchantmen, salvaging only the rum aboard each.
By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, and
though unarmed, she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland.
Her landing party captured a whiskey distillery and transferred 40,000
gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn.
The U.S.S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February 1799, with no
cannon shot, no food, no powder, NO rum, NO wine, NO whiskey and 38,600
gallons of stagnant water.

Now, those were Sailors! No wonder she is the oldest commissioned Ship
of the US NAVY. She was manned by drinking, fighting sailors. Not Drunks
but HARD DRINKING SAILORS.

Good night Nutsy, have your warm milk (g) You lost this discussion to

Man o man...the more you type the dumber you are on the subject.

Most rum in the early days was used to treat the water to prolong life
at the time. Sailors received rum rations for health reasons

Check out the history of Gin & Tonic with a twist of lime.

Gin and Tonics were -like Gin itself- originally developed as a
medicine. In this case to help fight malaria. When the British Sailors
and ships were in the East they became susceptible to malaria and
eventually found out that quinine (an ingredient in Tonic Water) was
useful for getting rid of the disease. Well, as you would probably
expect, drinking Tonic Water by itself is pretty nasty (unless you've
acquired a taste for it) and they had problems getting the British in
the East to drink it.

Along comes our friend Gin to be mixed with the Tonic Water, which not
only made drinking it much more pleasant, but also created an excellent
drink that would be remembered from then on, even if its relationship
to the disease was forgotten. So, as you can see, Gin and Tonic Water
came about due to medicinal reasons, then caught on later for thier
more pleasurable aspects.

On a minor note, the Lime (served in any GOOD Gin and Tonic) being a
citrus fruit (and therefore containing Vitamin C) helps to prevent
scurvy. Usually the limes are not the dominant ingredient of Gin and
Tonic, so they won't actually get rid of scurvy if you've already got
it - unless you drink A LOT of Gin and Tonics of course.
