Machinerys Handbook quotes 2500F as the melting point for carbon steel.
The temperature at which it loses significant strength is a hell of a
lot less. At 2000F, steel has gone an orange-red colour and is easily
deformed, is non-magnetic as it has undergone a phase change to pretty
much pure austenite.

Shrug. I skip most of it, not worth the bother. Occasionally he makes
the mistake of posting something checkable in the real world. Then,
it's time to shoot him down.

Gotta haul the boat this w/end. Maintenance time. But never mind, I'll
