25 years ago today Ronald Reagan was shot. It didn't stop him from being the greatest President of the 20th century. Glory! No, William Howard Taft was the GREATEST U.S. President of the 20th century. ** *** ** *** ** begin quote ** *** ** *** ** "Needing a big bathtub, Taft had a 7' long 41" wide tub installed that could accommodate 4 normal-sized men." ** *** ** *** ** end quote ** *** ** *** ** There are certainly many superlatives that could be applied to President Reagan, but he was not specifically the "greatest." For example, Reagan had the most successful career in Hollywood of any U.S. President. He was the first Governor of California to succeed to the Presidency. Reagan was the only divorced President. He was the first cnservative President to appoint a woman to the Supreme Court. And so on. Just because I found it somewhat interesting, here are some more facts about Taft: ** *** ** *** ** begin quote ** *** ** *** ** William Howard Taft was the first president to have a car at the White House (he had the White House stables converted into a 4-car garage), to throw out the first ball to begin the professional baseball season, and the first president to be buried in the National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912. Making Taft the first President of 48 states. Taft liked milk so much that he brought his own cow to the White House. The cows name was Mooly Wolly. Mooly was replaced by another cow called Paulin. Paulin was the last cow to graze on the White House lawn. Taft had no military experience and there were no wars fought during his term. |
