I don't know about you but I've come into different gulf ports over a
1000 times and have never been stopped by the USCG...Never. Infact, I have never in my life been stopped or boarded by the Coast Guard inshore or offshore. How many here have ever been stopped by the USCG? What did they do? Joe |

Not directly. I have responeded to many Pan Pan's and have issued a
few, and a few Mayday's to help others in , ect.. Helo crashes in the area, requested to follow weekend warriors in ect. But have never been approched, boarded, stopped, inspected, ect.......never ever. I do always check in with traffic control in ports that have them, approaching all ports I check on the VHF to see if there is any concerned outbound traffic and ID myself when hitting the seabouy. I've been stopped by the local yokles on my dink for a lifejacket check but thats it. Joe |

Joe,
I've been Boarded Twice. That was in 1994. Both in the same year. That was the last time and only time I've ever been boarded. Both times were routine and everything was in order. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage http://community.webtv.net/tassail/Pneuma |

Infact, I have never in my life been stopped or boarded by the Coast Guard inshore or offshore. I guess you look honest. How many here have ever been stopped by the USCG? What did they do? Yes, a couple of times. Most recently in Charleston, we were down there with relatives including our two beautiful teen-age nieces. They were sunbathing on the upper deck and a number of boats came close to look, including some racers in the E-Scow district regatta. Can't blame the Coasties for doing the same, I'm sure some of those E-Scow sailors would have come aboard too if they could have thought up a good excuse. All the times we have been boarded by the USCG they have been very professional. I always ask them to sign our log, too. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Never been boarded... came back through the Gate once, and we waved to them,
but they just waived back. I was on a boat that had been stopped the week before... passed inspection (this was an inshore charter). -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... I never was stopped by the USCG, but I was
stopped by the harbor Nazi's. The guy gave me a hard time because my niece was sitting on the bow (bow riding), which is illegal in a powerboat and quite legal in a sailboat doing 3 knots. I challenged him it and he told me he was doing 8 knots--in the main current, while I was in the shallows of a mooring field. He gave me a ticket for having an unregistered boat instead. He had he told me he would not give me a ticket for that however he had to give me a ticket for something, and realized I was correct in that bow riding is legal on a sailboat. Joe Never boarded at sea by CG Several courtesy dock checks (they used to do that about one weekend a season, your choice, no fault) Stopped once at night by DEA when sailing by Miami. Well not really stopped, they just matched speed and asked for numbers and destination. They were in a blacked out cig boat, I'm sure it was confiscated. They ran with us for a minute, probably checking a computer, then said have a nice evening and went on. Couldn't see them when they were 30' away. Frank |

Several times, mostly when returning to the U.S. (Puget Sound) from
Canadian waters. Mostly in the 70s (but a coupla times more recently) and mostly, I suspect, 'cause I had long hair. They did the typical thorough-search-and-meaningful-questions routine, then went away when they didn't find any drugs or explosives. Frank Joe wrote: ....snip...
