We named our boat "Chanteuse" because, of course, she's French and needed a French name, but we also wanted to incorporate something personal, as we have with all our boats. After test sailing her, we noticed that she sings when she's zipping along, plus the connection with my then avocation of singing. Hence "Chanteuse": female singer. The last two boats: CYGNUS - constellation, Swan, we bought the boat with that name and refused to anger the gods by changing the name, having no trust in the half dozen or so name changing rituals that we happened upon. FAUX PAS - more a testimony to our behaviour while we owned it, not the boats general demeanor. We did change that boats name from WHIRLAWAY and I'm positive we angered the gods in the process. |
