Default C&C 99 vs 35s5

How could you cheat yourself and your family?

You all deserve a 99!

Superior in every way.

Amen!

As a racer, the C&C rates as low as 99, while 35s5 rates as low as 114.
While 35s5's have beaten C&C 99's boat for boat, the 99 is still the
faster hull.
On deck boat boats are friendly and fun. The 35s5 cockpit is larger as
is the swim platform, but the 99 is a walkthrough. I prefer the helm
station of the C&C, but the 35s5 has the Whitlock steering which is far
better.
As a cruiser the 99 does well, featuring a nice cabin and usable aft
cabin. But the 35s5 is larger below with an even larger aft cabin and
head. The 35s5 is also way ahead on storage. Fit and finish is quite
close, but the 35s5 is a bit nicer
Both boats have reasonable draft, though the wing on the 35s5 is 8
inches less.

Conclusion: I like the C&C 99 a lot. It's one of my favorite new
designs because it packages a good fast hull with a nice cruising
interior. But we have exactly the same thing with our 35s5, a boat that
has actually increased in value in the last 5 years. In the end,
considering that we'll do little racing, the 35s5 is the better boat
again.

What a boat!

It's no wonder you like it too!

I liked it way back when I saw hull #1 at the AC boat show, which led
me to designs like the 34xl and 35s5...two boats that offer many of the
same qualities and a few the 99 misses out on. I prefer the C&C 34XL to
the 99 and the XL is faster. I prefer the 35s5 to the 99.
If you want to troll, use the 34XL....far nicer than the 99 and at
least as nice as the 35s5. We walked away from the XL for one
reason...7' draft.

Why is that? Isn't there an easy to join in and fun Wed. nite series
a mile or so from where you keep you boat and two different comparable
series almost as near (i.e., in Manhassett and at "Can 1" near Exec.
Rocks)?

Why the apparent reluctance to test your otherwise apparently just
emptily Blowhard "my boat is faster than yours!" postings?

Because we're just not interested in how "fast" the boat is. I only
posted those to **** off various losers here who worry about such
things...like Sloco, Scotty and Doug. Mission accomplished!

Well, duh. That was a rhetorical question?
Simplest explanation, at some point, most clubs post their results online.

And considering that the boat is new to us and we're not experienced
racers, what exactly would those results indicate? If we won, you'd all
claim the other boats were badly sailed. If we lost you'd all claim we
should be doing better.
Sailing side by side with many of our local friends on their boats,
we'll see just how fast the 35s5 is. The only boat at our club that
will be faster is a C&C 34XL with a 7 foot draft...a great boat. I
expect my friend's Sweden 39 to be faster of course. Most others will
be slower and less fun...believe me, we know! We set a record for
sailing different boats last summer.

Does the 34XL have the same superior vacuum bag construction of the 99?

Amen!

Epoxy hull as I recall...I don't remember the details. But as a coastal
cruiser it's even faster than the 99, has more room below, more
stowage, and even better cockpit and running backstays to drive you
nuts.
Doug listed the 34XL and + versions with centerboards as a viable
alternative to the 35s5 (one of the few), but they cost close to 100K,
driven up in price by the 99. Check it out...the 34XL is fantastic.
Very tough to get the C&C group says only a few CB versions were built.
