How boats age is a factor of their enviroment ie the crap that's in the
air. That's why the Boobs boats have always looked like **** and why
his new ride will look 30 years old in just a couple of years. I
looked at a S2 9.1 once that had spent it's entire life on Smith
Mountain Lake in Virginia. The thing was truly MINT! It looked like
it had been made "yesterday"

Down south it is easy to let a boat go. Even northern
sailors tend to move their boats south to cut down on
the annual maintenance.


Or at least on haul-outs.

The net result is that many, not all, southern boats fall into
disuse and suffer from lack of maintenance.

It's also a trap of thinking you can always go sailing, so
you don't go today. Up north, you gotta go now before the
season is over.

I've seen a lot of derelicts in back lots up north, too. I
can take you acres of boats in RI and Massachusetts that
haven't been in the water for 10 years.


A similar things happens with beer. Excess beer gets shipped
south.

It ubiquitous. We have them here in the GLs in droves. Some haven't seen
water, aside from the rain collected in their bilges, for over two decades.
I suspect a few folks experienced surprise to learn that boats *do* require
maintenance.
