Did you meet Strawberry and Glendon there? Max |

Lots of dark rum on the honor bar system and then the required argument with Sydney when he pads the bill. He backs off and still makes out. Then talks us into helping him haul his boat the next morning. Frank |

You know of course they all have "tourist" names. I just luv some of the
rasta bush names..... Raz, Melody, Irie... my favourite was "Skeletor". I always introduced myself by my bush name... I be Mooron! ha ha ha BVI is getting to be like Jamaica.... overrun with Americans bringing the worst out in the locals. When I stayed there, I always arranged to visit with local families and help out with chores, building things, gardening or whatever. I got to go fishing with them and even managed to supply the local restaurant with the "catch of the day" occasionally, which would net me a free supper. My favourite was to set camp at Brewer's and charter fallow. That got me a variety of vessels for short trips of a day or more at off season rates. I'd load the boats with folks from the campground who normally wouldn't have the opportunity or cash to get out sailing. I bring the boat back on time and clean... so the next charter is easy. Lots of things had changed on my last trip there.... none of which I liked. Heh... How come nobody mentioned the Roti Palace in Road Town. Conch Rotis with an icy cold beer. It is, in Little Harbor on Jost. And Sydney still brings in spiny lobsters daily. Did you meet Strawberry and Glendon there? Max Long time ago. Were they family members? if so, yes. Strawberry ran the t-shirt business attached to the bar/restaurant--she's quite a bit younger than Sydney--and Glendon is her young son. He's a huge fan of the Detroit Redwings. I traded him a Redwings jersey for several t-shirts. Unsure if they are related to Sydney, but I wouldn't be surprised. When we were there it was Sydney, the wife, kids doing it all. Best lobster ever. Lots of dark rum on the honor bar system and then the required argument with Sydney when he pads the bill. He was out lobstering most of the day, so we dealt with Strawberry. What we didn't know was that the painkillers were already mixed with rum. We thought they were just the mix, so we added more Cruzan to every glass. Little wonder we all passed out back on the boat. He backs off and still makes out. Then talks us into helping him haul his boat the next morning. He was cordial and rather behind the scenes when we were there. In fact he let us pick our lobsters for dinner from his catch of the day. Strawberry said he "never" lets anyone do that. Guess we caught him on a good day. Max |
