On alt.sailing.asa we have some Sllllooooowwww boats! These boats are not bad boats, but they are generally pretty darn slow and need help from their engines in certain conditions. Well, of course. If you bought ANY sailboat hoping to go fast you are an idiot. Not a one of them can keep up with those hotels-on-a-barge called cruise ships, let alone match their comfort. No, sailboats are meant to be worked on - to keep you from having too much idle time on your hands or money in your pockets that you might otherwise spend on wenching or other sin. The proper guage of sailboat "goodness" is how much money and time one spends working on one each season minus the time actually spent sailing. I'm not sure where taking ones children to swim in a sewer fits into that equation .... |
