So far, we've seen both those seeking freedom and those who are
freeloaders....the freeloaders are strange creatures.... "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Joe, Is living on a Sailboat really about "Freedom" or "Free Loading?" http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

So you should endlessy wander? You travel to visit and discover, to broaden your horizon, not to wander forever towards one. If you want to invest in a house to make money then thats fine, but the bubble is bursting in realestate Bob. Living on a sailboat is about freedom. Joe Joe Dream on. Unless you are connected to this drivel by a satellite connection from some distant, secluded anchorage, siping martinis that some minion made, your freedom is a myth. Freedom is not having to suck the blackwater out of your tank, paint the bottom, change the oil and fill the tanks. Freedom is owning the dock, the boat, a house, condo in Aspen and a travel agency. Freedom is someone else getting up to check the lines at 0200. Living on a boat is the pain that some of us ordinary people are willing to put up with to have a small taste of freedom but freedom it ain't Too bad you missed out on those house deals! |

Too Bad? Last house I bought, I sold it 4 years later and doubled my
investment. Wireless is here, the price will drop and I will indeed be in a secluded cove or lagoon sipping martini's soon. Best thing is I will be making good money while I do it. Capt. Poop sucks out the waste, I dont even have to be here. Mexicans paint the bottom and I do not mind tinkering with engines. Shoulden't you be out raking leaves or something? Joe |

Some of us love it, and don't see the "pain" you speak of. Seahag .. |

We'll be going down "the Ditch" probablt in June...or maybe up...one way or
ta other, we'll be going somewhere....and our dock fees are no where near the amount we pay in property and school taxes at home....also, discovereing that you will not kill each other when forced into close cap(even after 27 years of living together) is a reassuring thing... tivity "Bob Crantz" wrote in message k.net... Don't forget no kids, no lathe, no mill, no MIG/TIG, no extensive library, no appreciating asset (in some markets houses have doubled in value over the last 7 years), boats are more work than houses, a large yacht is smaller than an efficiency condo in square footage, etc. Dock fees are higher than school/property taxes. A boat is not a house. On lives aboard to travel, not to remain in one place. Amen! "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... It's nice to have a boat thats more than a weekend toy costing money isn't it? No more School Tax, no more property tax, a home that rocks you to sleep. Take 10 min to go sailing, great sunsets and sunrises on the water every day. Only us liveaboards enjoy the true value a fine sailing vessel provides. I think I'll stroll the decks now, perhaps feed the birds and have another cup of fresh Hills Brothers coffee up on the forecastle. Charlie the crab man should be making his rounds anytime now. Going to see if he has a soft shells for us. Joe RedCloud the perfect home |

They would have to move al the junk in the cockpit and all over the deck. In my experience it's the racers that get out quickest, most often and in all weather. I know what a forecastle is. joe It is different on a ship. On a small boat it is called the foredeck. It would be pompous to call it a fo'csle. We muster the ship's crew on the fo'csle. As in: "Fo'csle berthing party close up." Big difference on your little liveaboard. "Coffee is served on the foredeck." When and where did you serve on the old girl? BB35? Trade? |

I never served on the Texas but I've crawled thru ever square inch of
her and donated some vintage items. What a ship. On RedCloud it's the Fo'csle, just above the Masters Stateroom in the Officers Quarters thru the Passageway forward of the Galley and Frame 14. Hey call me pompous just don't call me Bobspirt. Joe |
