Default Loco's Boat Knowledge

Well, much like Doug's know how about surveys, Loco recently said that
Beneteau is just like a European Hunter. Lets have a look at that
statement.

They are sold as step up boats here while in
europe they are looked at as Hunters.

Does Hunter build boats that perform like the 35s5?
No
Does Hunter build boats that are built to a high standard like the
First series?
No
Does Hunter put performance ahead of cabin size?
No
Does Hunter build race boats like the first series at all?
No

So what does Loco mean? Is he upset because Hunter, Beneteau and
Catalina were able to weather the 80's while the clowns who built his
still-born Depress 30 couldn't make it work?
Sorry, Loco...My boat and Donal's are faster and more fun. They are
also more valuable, nicer to look at and be aboard.
Few people ever heard of an Express 30. It's a footnote. The First
series, starting in the late 80's has been pushing the envelope for
high performance cruising in a reasonably priced package. That said, my
boat sold for a LOT more than yours new because it's a better, faster,
roomier design.

Comparing a Beneteau First series to a Hunter, Catalina or other family
cruiser of the same intent shows a paramount ignorance about boats. And
that's Loco all over!

Well, I hope so. It's 5 feet longer. Great statement.

Few people ever heard of Mark Levenson amplifiers also. Your point?

5 feet longer doesn't always make a better boat. You truly know nothing
if you think size = better. But in this case the 35s5 is nicer in EVERY
way. The 35s5 was the most expensive boat per foot built by Beneteau in
the 90's and it's head and shoulders above your Depress 30.

Most people have heard of Mark Levinson! Where do you live? Under a
rock?! Even Subaru put ML gear in the Legacy a few years ago! ML is
also still in business building on their technology. The builders of
your dinosaur flunked out and went under long ago.

You have a knack of stating the obvious...still, all things being
equal, a 5' longer boat WILL be faster and roomier,
A. because it's longer
B. because to get the correct hull shape it will be wider
C. it will carry more sail because being longer it's more easily
driven.

Remember all things being equal as in ratios are the same.

Ratios are rarely the same, Ozzy. Only an idiot like Loco would make
such a statement about 5' LOA when things like WL, wetted surface, S/AD
are more important factors. His Depress 30 will still clobber a new
Catalina 350 in spite of the LOA (as you well know) for just those
reasons. It was Loco's comment about the 5' that was idiotic and
simplistic, yet you seem inclined to look past that and would rather
dress me down for stating truths that you find "obvious."
You're hurting my feelings, Ozzy.

Brand recognition is step one in the process of finding the right boat.
Almost everyone here has a known brand of some type. You don't rely on
the name 100% either way, but it's a start. You also have an idea about
your investment when you buy a specific make. That's important if you
plan to buy larger or smaller boats over time. You can also research
specific makes to learn what features you might want, even if you end
up building your own boat.
Scotty knows less about boats than Loco it would appear!

PJ wouldn't know sarcasm if it hit him in the face. No worry
though, as everything passes over his head.

Thus proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are not a

"real"
sailor!
