He didn't hit bottom. It's 20+ feet there. It was the roll.
Turns out someone I know knows this guy, and I'm trying to find out. Obviously, he made had a big lapse in judgement. I just can't imagine why. It's pretty obvious when there are breaking waves. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message . .. "JG" wrote Check it out.. http://www.sfsurvey.com/photos/sailH...ges/image1.htm That was ugly. I wonder if the mast came off because of the rollover, or if it hit the bottom. WTF was the guy doing sailing there? Vito wrote: Just goes to show the evils of sailing a boat instead of working on it! That boat already needed work, including new bottom paint. There was no reason to take her out. The wages of sin ..... The wages of stupidity, more like. And the boat may not have needed bottom work. A lot of boats that get prepped for racing have very patchy looking bottoms from being sanded fair... the anti-foul is this slick short-term stuff that's clear. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Maybe he thought he could get a boost by surfing those waves. Maybe there was a really beautiful woman on shore he wanted to get a closer look at. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I think it might have been an attempt to surf, which is fine, except that
you don't do that if the waves are breaking. Usually, if you see surfers there, it's not the right time. I'm trying to get more info. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message . .. If it's only 20+ feet then the mast struck bottom. Duh if you said it
was 30+ feet then maybe the mast did not strike bottom. Anyone that surfs a sailboat knows to hand hold the main sheet so you can let go if you roll, reducing the load on the mast. amatures! Joe |

I suppose it's theoretically possible, but I doubt it. That would take quite
a bounce. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... If it's only 20+ feet then the mast struck bottom. That whole fiasco looks like something I would do.
