Since it's sunny out, and the temps are going up near 60F, we're going to do
the great annual untarping ritual today and start some clean-up. I have to paint the waterline this year...when they re-did the bottom 3 years ago, they made a mess of it...opinions: roll or brush? I'm going to use Petit...I used that on the Butterfly and it looks great except where we still haven't sanded down the huge patch from being holed...) Still have to get a couple cans of VC-17 to augment the cans we have...2 coats of varnish on the sole and a few more to go....and have to get that main cover ordered...all of a sudden we're getting the feeling that we're coming down to the wire and there's much to be done. -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 "Women and cats will do as they please..." I'm kind of worried about spraying...there is a constant wind where we're
parked and very close proximity to two other boats...the red one wouldn't be as problematical as the white if errant nacy spray came wafting by....I used foam rollers on the Butterfly... Here if its windy we use sheets of plastic to protect others boats. You
can also use a tarp as a wind break. Joe |

I don't know about the boot stripe paints-assuming that's what you're using-but modern marine paints can be rolled on with fairly good results. http://www.sailnet.com/collections/a...leid=caseyd008 Read this article a while back, from Don Casey, author of "This Old Boat". Last time I hauled my boat I wanted to spray it, but the yard wouldn't allow
it (environ regs or some such crap), so I rolled. (It's ok for them to spray, but not for individual customers). In comparison, it does look like sh*t. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... katysails wrote: Since it's sunny out, and the temps are going up near 60F, we're going to do the great annual untarping ritual today and start some clean-up. .... All plastic boats look like crap with brushed on coatings IMO. So far I haven't seen any "plastic" boats with any kind of coatings. Those rotomolded kayaks & canoes generally are colored in the mold. Maybe you were thinking of a plastic rain coat? ... Rolling on is not a good ideal. Really? Why is rolling not a good "ideal"? It is quite possible to get a beautiful finish using a roller, and in only slightly more time than with a sprayer.... less actually, if the surface isn't very large. It does take some practice thinning the paint to the right consistancy, and good rollers (not the cheap Wal-Mart specials). Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I prefer rolling. If you're just doing the water line, a few inches,
then a brush would be less to clean up. "katysails" wrote in message ...
