So far I haven't seen any "plastic" boats with any kind of coatings.
Those rotomolded kayaks & canoes generally are colored in the mold.
Maybe you were thinking of a plastic rain coat?

Really? Why is rolling not a good "ideal"?

It is quite possible to get a beautiful finish using a roller, and in
only slightly more time than with a sprayer.... less actually, if the
surface isn't very large. It does take some practice thinning the paint
to the right consistancy, and good rollers (not the cheap Wal-Mart
specials).
