Default Tally Ho Pip pip & a Jolly good show!

Victoria Cross awarded for first time in 20 years

LONDON (Reuters) - An armoured vehicle driver who twice drove out of
ambushes under fire in Iraq will become the first recipient of
Britain's
top military honour in more than 20 years, the Ministry of Defence
says.

Private Johnson Beharry of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment will
be the first person to receive the Victoria Cross since 1982 and the
first living recipient since 1965.

He was cited for "valour of the highest order" after he drove out of an

ambush of rocket-propelled grenades and extracted his wounded
colleagues
from the vehicle while under fire in May 2004.

Six weeks later his vehicle was again attacked by rockets. His
commander
and other troops were incapacitated and he was seriously wounded in the

head, but he kept driving to safety until he lost consciousness, the
ministry said in a statement.

His citation reads: "For his repeated extreme gallantry and
unquestioned
valour, despite intense direct attacks, personal injury and damage to
his vehicle in the face of relentless enemy action, Private Beharry
deserves the highest possible recognition."

Only a handful of recipients of the Victoria Cross are still alive,
mostly veterans of World War Two.

The medal was first awarded by Queen Victoria in 1857 for bravery
during
the Crimean War and has been given only 11 times since 1945.

The last two recipients were Ian John McKay and Herbert Jones, both of
whom died charging enemy positions during the Falklands War in 1982.

Beharry was included in a list this week of more than 140 British
troops
awarded honours for roles in Iraq, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, the
Balkans, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Congo.

And what's your point, Joe? That you consider the rarest bravery
award of all (Britain, and also Australia, Canada), awarded only
for genuine and extreme heroics, is a worthy matter for joking,
pip pip?

What a silly question! Joe lives in a world where GW Bush is an
intelligent, honest and courageous individual. Not only did Iraq have WMD,
but all the 9/11 hijackers were Iraqi trained members of Saddam Bin
Laden's terrorist group(Al Qaeda). GW personally led his troops into battle
in the full knowledge that he faced great peril. After all, he was bound
to get attacked by WMD.

Furthermore, in Joe's world, GW's decision to go to war was not influenced
by the fact that his family and friends all had shares in Carlyle and
Haliburton. Oddly, IIRC, Joe did suggest that we should buy shares in
Haliburton just before the war. Perhaps he didn't realise that they would
get caught overcharging the American Taxpayers hundreds of millions of
dollars.

The funniest thing is that if Joe lived in the UK he would support Labour!!
After all he couldn't support a party that was going to repeal the human
rights act because itinerants were abusing it, could he?

Regards

Donal

OK. Now I understand that your heading to this thread was not
mocking the exploits of a truly brave man--which is what it first
appeared to a speaker of the dialect known as the Queen's
English--but simply your being caught in a language timewarp
through watching a 30-year old program, which was mocking a form
of the language which even back then had almost winked out of
existence.

Support Labour. Why would I support Labour?

And I think that was Capt. American who suggested you buy Halliburton
stock not I. But I must admit I took his advice and did buy
Halliburton. Sold it all 3 mo ago and put all the cash into oil futures
options for July.

Saddam had WMD and failed to prove he did not have any WMD at the start
of the gulf war. President Bush also gave Saddam and his boys 24 hours
to get out of town as a last ditch effort to avoid a conflict. Donal...
Saddams had many chances to avoid a war.

You and your likes now understand that Americans mean what we say when
it comes to our security, do not like it...Lump it buddy!

The whole world is Lucky GW's at the helm.

The Queens English...She has her own version?

Damn I've been studying Monty Python and Benny Hill for years now. I
was just about confident enough to book my ticket on the telley for a
jaunt across the pond for a chance to wander down Abby Road to
Picadilly square. Was gonna make one of the guys with the fuzzy tall
black hat flinch. Feed the crows at london tower.. a jolly ol time i
had plan i did indeed. Now you went a fussed it all up you did.
