Well, I agree that you are a dufass. The truth of the matter is that
they coined the name, and then reverse engineered the acronym to fit.

Have some respect Bubba... it took 20 men 20 months to come up with that...

The plano lens is either convex-concave on one side and Plano Flat on
the other.

Not quite. IF concave on one side and flat on the other, it's a minus power
lens. IF convex on one side and flat on the other, it's a plus power lens.
The only way a plano lens can be curved is for it to be convex on one side
and concave on the other. The curvature of each respective side will depend
upon the index of refraction of the lens material in order to remain plano
in power.

If just flat then it is not a lens. . That simple Max.

Hardly. Any plano-plano transparent media can become a lens, dependent upon
its usage. For example, a neutral density lens for a camera is almost
always plano-plano, as are colored filters for the same purpose. All are
correctly termed lenses.

Do you really want to continue this debate? You're out of your league here.

I live in this universe, have lived and worked on boats since 1977 and
have never heard the term "lens" used for the proper term "Glass" in a
port.

An old merchant marine sailor, who lived down the street from me while I was
growing up, gave me an old bronze opening port one year for Christmas. The
glass was cracked, and he told me he'd make me a new "lens" for it. Later
he appeared at our door with a circular piece of flat, tempered glass, which
he used to replace the broken "lens."

Not sure where you got your experience, but I think this old sailor knew his
terminology.

If we slack up on the little things.. then you open the door for
people to slack on the proper terms of the importamt things. On boats,
and for sure sailboat knowing the proper terms and names might keep you
from getting injured or killing someone. Crytal clear concise terms can
mean the difference of life of death.

Reuters News Agency:
A sailor was killed when he entered his boat's galley to make himself
another rum and coke. The reason for his death is unsure, but his crew have
their own opinions as to what killed the skipper.
"That idiot was always calling it the 'kitchen.' Serves him right, the
jerk," said Moke Gibbons, about the boat's owner. "He was just bucking for
an early demise."

Nope, the Navy is a stickler for using term it deems correct....it
ignores many in common useage!

Aw come on Ozone.... it took a team of 10 people sixteen days to come up
with that label for military portholes.

Only 10?

Hell, that was just a small committee.

For not being angry (your claim) you certainly seem to be carrying a major
grudge, LP.
