Wrong Whorebath, it is an offically described distress signal.

So is a Red Flare
American Flag Flown upside down
Waving both arms up and down

Can anyone describe more?

And for extra credit, there is one signal approved by the US Inland
rules that is specifically precluded under the International Rules.
Which is that?

This guy sailed into the anchorage last year in a very light wind. He dropped
anchor, stood on the bow and started waving his arms up and down in a distress
signal. I went over in my dinghy and asked him what was the nature of his distress
(as required by law). He said he needed a ride to shore because he had no dinghy.

I told him to try swimming and motored away.

Some people are so stupid.

One hand held vertical, one hand horizontal, with the horizontal hand
moving up and down, touching the palm of the horizontal hand to the
fingertips of the vertical hand.

Pathetic Earthlings! No one can save you now!
