The tabernacle system is no diffrent than any other deck mounted rig.
And most likely stronger than a keel mounted mast.


That may be the case, but boats custom built for racing don't have
tabernacle masts. Ease of lowering the mast is not even the tiniest
consideration for racing.

And yes I did mean the around the world race.
