It is plain to see that you don't realize a heavier displacement hull makes a bigger bow wave. Such big bow waves trap the hull in a deep trough. Your vessel is heavy and has an old, deep keel design all of which work to create a large wave train. So much energy goes into making these waves that there is little left to move your vessel forward. My fin-keeler is faster on every point of sail than an equivalent full-keeler but it is markedly faster downwind because it can surf with control. CN |
