The point is the imaginary finish line is a trick to make her time better than it really was. Neal, you're a complete wally. She started her trip around the world at Ushant. When she got back to Ushant, she had sailed around the world. No. When she got back to Ushant she crossed the somewhat arbitrary line designated as the start/finish line. She "sailed around the world" when her path crossed her antipodal path. Curiously, if that happened at all, it would have been fairly close to Ushant. What on Earth makes you suggest that the finish line was imaginary? Maybe because most of the news reports described it that way. Frankly, I never much liked the term, but it seems that people have to me reminded that there isn't a line actually painted on the ocean. |
