So are you claiming that you stay up all night maintaining a proper
watch? Being on a mooring does not relieve you of the responsibility of
obeying Rule 5.

I disagree. I would say more accurately that Little Ellen has become
the latest criminal to sail around the world. She's no sailor or she
would not knowingly violate Rule 5 of the COLREGS.

In any other sport if a competitor broke the laws that governed
his or her sport do you think they would be allowed to keep any
record.
Just imagine if an Olympic athlete failed his drug test. His record
would be taken away. Just think if a NASCAR driver ignored the
yellow flag and passed his way into first place under the yellow,
he would be disqualified.

Why is it all you fools rejoice when some little dyke violates
the COLREGS. She has no record in my opinion unless and until
she operates legally.

Jeff,

If you weren't such a first class idiot you would read the Rules
and note that Rule 5 comes under the heading of Steering and Sailing
Rules.

What don't you understand about:

Part B - Steering and Sailing Rules

A vessel anchored or moored is not underway so neither is it steering nor is it sailing by defintion.

3(i) The word "underway" means a vessel is not at anchor, or made fast to the shore, or aground.

I hope this helps.

Wrong, Putz. There's nothing in the rule that says you only need to
keep watch while underway. Perhaps you're claiming that your boat does
not qualify as a "vessel"?

Your wrong!

Whereas, the section of the Rules under which Rule 5 occurs
is Section B which is Steering and Sailing Rules,

And, whereas, any vessel that is anchored or made fast to the shore
is not steering or sailing by definition. (look at the definition of
'under way' in the Rules)

It follows, Rule five does not apply to anchored, docked, or moored
vessels.

Simple logic and irrefutable because of it.

Listen to Joe, you PUTZ! He's right and you're wrong.

Read it and weep:

Ellen MacArthur's record bid ends in disaster

Updated 24 February 2003, 13.12

British sailor Ellen MacArthur has had to abandon her
attempt to become the fastest person to sail around the world.
She pulled out of the Jules Verne Challenge when the thirty-nine
metre mast on her boat snapped into three pieces.

It came crashing down onto one of the hulls of the Kingfisher 2
- making a hole in it. Luckily none of the 14-man crew was hurt.

Before the mast broke Kingfisher 2 was on day 26 and almost
a whole day ahead of the nearest competitor.

Ellen had been trying to beat the current record of
64 days, eight hours, 37 minutes and 24 seconds set in 2002.
"To watch all that work drift away was so painful", she said.

Poor Donal - wrong again.

And poor Wally can't follow a thread. I realize the report of Ellen's failure
is a year old but what it does is give the record of the fastest person to
sail around the world and it is NOT little Ellen like Donal claimed.

Had he claimed little dyke Ellen is the fastest person to single-hand
around the world he would have been correct but he didn't so he
wasn't and neither are you, you little weenie!

I'm pleased to see that you admit that Ellen is the fastest person to sail
single-handed around the world.

I suspect that the source of your irritation is that Americans have never
achieved much in *real* sailing.

You only do well in competitions where the skipper can sleep in a hotel room
every night - backed by enormous quantities of sponsers' dollars!

I'm not surprised that you consider yourself to be a real sailor.... when
you only compare yourself with Joe and Jeff. I won't insult you by
suggesting that you compare yourself with Max, Jon,BB or Bob.
