"Capt. Neal®" wrote in message ... I hate to admit it but Jonathan is right and Mooron is wrong. There is a 'solar wind.' It consists of charged particles and it is strong enough to make it all the way to the heliopause. These charged particles bouncing off the solar sails impart small forces in the direction away from the sun and the sails are propelled away at very high velocities though the acceleration is rather uninspiring. Calling a recurring wave of charged particles a "Wind"..... well it's cute and all... but Ganz and Ozone think it's a breeze and you can set your sails to the wind! CM |
Neither of them is that stupid. I'm sure they realize the limitations
of solar wind sailing. But, the funny thing is by using the gravity fields of various objects in the solar system, solar sails can and probably eventually will be able to 'sail' towards the sun. "Capt. Neal®" wrote in message ... Be a man. Admit your foolish error. Further Ganz bashing only demonstrates your frustration - not your manliness. Stand Down.... I've made no error! If I recall correctly you were alluding to tacking through a Solar Wind... which would outline your proficiency in the subject you've only recently researched by utilizing Ganz's links! Here let me quote you brainiac.. Bwaahahhahahahahahhahhahha. That solar sail will work but only downwind or crosswind. It will never be able to go upwind. It is against the known laws of physics for a sailboat to sail directly into the wind and it's the same for solar sails Cross Wind????? ... on a photon wave?? Solar Wind..... Pffft! ......and since when are you placing limits to tormenting Ganz? CM |

I stand by my statements. A solar sail cannot go anywhere but downwind. It can use gravity assist from various bodies in space to go sideways to the solar wind and even directly upwind in which case the sails would have to be furled or turned edge on to the solar wind. The velocity a solar sail attains from going downwind can be used to allow it to travel in any direction provided it has an intelligent program using planetary mechanics. And, I still have not visited a single ganz link on this subject. I have bookmarked a couple of space sites and I read them regularly. This is why I know it all. CN |

You on the other hand seem to have lost your dignity! You lumbered in on a subject you were ill informed on and made outlandish claims... agreeing with Ganz that a Solar Wind was equivalent to an ocean breeze! Ganz posted URLs that only served to prove he didn't have a clue about the subject.... and now you've decided to compound that by siding with Ganz in the Loser's Box! Way to go there .... those books on the language of women really have had an effect... you now know how to communicate with Ganz! CM |

Bwahahahahahahaaa.... Really Space Cadet?.... then kindly explain how you'd set your solar sails for a beam reach on a solar wind despite the radial pattern of dispersion. Then since you know it all..... explain the description of photon waves as a "wind".... CM |

Frankly I'm elated you decided to jump in ... at least I was forced to engage brain cell activity! I even managed to get Ozone to jump in ... but I think he caught on as to where I was going with this and bailed! :-) CM |
Neal can't set any sails to any wind.
