The BVI
Looks like a crowded tourist trap full of weekend warriors. A regular
amusement park. Joe |
Joey is jealous because he can't afford it. It was in fact not crowded at
all. The only place where even the mooring balls came close to being filled were Soper's Hole. The rest of the places were wide open. Even the locals commented that it was a combination of a poor US economy and a bad hurricane season. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... Jeeeze every picture you posted look like a busy seaport full of
weekend warriors on rent-a-boats. And that was the slack season? Who needs expensive meals? Ill go to Belize ect where I can eat all the lobster I want for free, and rum is dirt cheap. Who wants to be in a pack or turons? Joe |
"Joe" wrote in message oups.com... Who wants to be in a pack or turons? Joe Well, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. You are posting in this group, no? John Cairns |
Yes, what does that have to do with choice of sailing destinations? Why
sail in a pack of turons when you can do better? Joe |

It is shoulder season. Obviously, you're incapable of clicking on links, but
that doesn't surprise me. I've been to Belize, which is nice, but it was BVI this year. Why do you have a problem with that? -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message oups.com... The food and drink is great, and it's fun to watch to locals play grab-ass after sundown. Also a great market there with everything needed for re-provisioning. The rest of the places were wide open. Cross between a tourist and a moron :0)
Turons, they wander the docks and ask stupid questions after departing rent-a-boats and cruise ships. Joe |
I can do better right here Jon.
Crystal clear water, great fishing, diving, coral reefs, and fancy resturants that over charge. Joe |
In the Keys we call them 'spores' - stupid people on rental equipment.

Joe On a scale of 1-5 for "touristy", I'd have to rate the BVI as a 2 at most. It isn't a direct flight from the mainland US afaik, excepting possibly Miami. It is a funkier version of the USVI with few of the attendant problems, after all, it was never a part of the US. The first time we went there we arrived late at night and extremely hungry, we went to a little chicken shack in the center of Road Town and never felt unsafe, and that chicken was good! You can really do what you want there, do the typical tourist bit like Soper's Hole, or go to little backwaters like Trellis Bay. You should really take the little lady there, she'll love it. http://community.webshots.com/album/26837281DiJyLAOvys http://community.webshots.com/album/26861776izIpNemEck http://community.webshots.com/album/43272362eOXpjD John Cairns |

Joe You can do the full tourist bit at places like Soper's Hole, which is the ferry terminus from the USVI on the west end of Tortola, or you can go to a place like Little Harbor on Jost Van Dyke, if you eat at Abe's you have to make reservations, not because it's hard to get a table but because they only prepare the meals on request. The old one was unique in that they had to keep the pumps running 24/7 or
the damn thing would sink. Did you watch the bellybutton shots? Are they still doing that? There were several days of little or no wind, very unusual in any season. OTOH there were no bugs in our cottage, halfway up the hill on the (usually) windward side. ...
