The old one was unique in that they had to keep the pumps running 24/7 or
the damn thing would sink. Did you watch the bellybutton shots? Are they
still doing that? I heard that women who take off their tops get a free
t-shirt.

Hmmm. We saw far more than bb shots. A brief summary: two young
females--both quite well endowed--were stark naked, dancing on a table. Two
young men stripped and danced with them. Later one of the young men and one
of the young women were seen copulating in a corner while others looked on
and applauded. About that time a rather obese middle-aged woman removed her
top and before she got her shorts off we beat a hasty retreat to the dink
and motored away. This particular party went on for another several hours.
We had to haul anchor and move the boat--too noisy. I'm told that
particular type of evening was not all that unusual on the Willie T.

I remember something similar in the late 90s. We wanted a relaxing
vacation, not a strip club experience.

The Willie T. is a better experience during the day, actually. Lots of rum,
good food, and no drunken yuppie antics. That particular evening we found
ourselves somewhat embarrassed by the unabashed nature of the whole thing.
I've talked to others who feel similarly, and apparently the management of
the William Thornton are attempting to clean up their image. They have also
been under pressure from the locals to do so. The residents and belongers
in the BVI tend to be fairly religious, and are offended by such things.

You should have seen the reaction when the first Gay Cruise Landed in Road
Town. The people were totally offended by the public display of male on male
hand holding, face sucking and 'other' antics. I was just returning with a
Moorings charter when I was treated to an older local lady tearing a strip
off two homos from the Gay Cruise, suckin' face in the bar/pool area. Man
did she lay into them!
It was a great show... those little queers left in a hurry. I was informed
they were waiting for information on chartering for a return trip to the
island. Guess they won't be back... or will go to the USVI.

That's it? That's nothing compared to the BVI, Belize, and a host of other
places.

It doesn't surprise me that locals would be offended by overt gay behavior.
When we were on Jost van Dyke, we stopped into a tiny grocery store for a
few things. My friend was shirtless, and the store owner laid into him
about it. Told him it was illegal. It is not illegal, despite her claim,
but my friend apologized for his oversight. The temp was over 90 and he
never wears a shirt above 75 degrees. The locals will tolerate bathing
suits and bare skin on the beaches and in such places as Foxy's, but they
are offended by that attire, or lack thereof, when off the beaten path.

While not illegal, it shows respect to the people who run the place and the
people who live there. The BVI are not part of the US. Your friend needs to
be respectful of their laws and their customs. Was this his first trip?

SAIL LOCO February 3rd 05 08:25 PM

Anybody visiting anyplace should read up a little on local customs. Five
minutes spent with a cruising guide would have told the nitwit that bathing
suits and shirtless atire are not appreciated in the BVIs. Personally I find a
sweaty shirtless a-hole in any store anywhere to be offensive.

Damn! That reminds me.

MARTI GRA is this weekend in Galveston.

I hope all the slips are not rented, they are within staggering
distance from the strand.
