HAPPY NEW YEAR 2005
Happy New Year!
I'm happy to report I am still alive and made it through 2004. I wish you all a Happy New Year and bid you make 2005 your best year yet. While hauling ECHO and shrink wrapping her, I noticed I was very short of breath. A visit to the doctor revealed an irregularity with my heart. I underwent a cardiogram, angioplasty, and stent emplacement on the 23rd and was released on Christmas Day. Four hours on the table, when typical operations are one hour is not a happy feeling. I was really depressed about it until I learned Peter, my German sailing buddy, had a few stents installed last year. He is in good shape and a few years younger than I. Funny how that made me feel better! In any event the operation seems have gone OK, and I'm feeling better. While in the hospital it occurred to me that in the 1 in 1000 chance that I kicked off, my biggest regret would be not saying farewell to my many newsgroup friends. Participating in this group has been one of the most worthwhile things I've done in my life. I treasure the many friendships I've made here. Bart Senior |

I spent a week in Coronary Care once myself, only to find out my shortness of breath was due to asthma. My heart checked out ok, but the experience was unsettling nonetheless. I've always done strength training but I began to focus more on cardio after that. I've tried many machines both at home and in gyms, and the one I like best (at least at home) is the Gazelle. In addition to cardio, it offers a great low impact leg workout, does lower abs, and with a slight lean forward or backward, gives a great upper body strength workout. http://www.tonylittle.com/SearchResu...?CategoryID=31 btw - if I ever checked out unexpectedly, I'll leave it up to Scotty, and possibly Katy, to figure it out. and another btw - like you, I also appreciate the many charms and personalities of this group. Thanks, but yes, I did try the split seat ( I think it was called a twin-pop
or something like that). Unfortunately I still had a problem. I used to ride 25 miles/day and loved it. I still have my motorcycle, but reluctantly, had to give up on the bicycle. Welcome to the Stent Club Bart;
I had mine done three years ago. Was a great improvement in my life. The was in a life that had already used up 76 yrs Doctor put me on a twice a year chk up, mostly because of my age and a life time of high blood pressure but it has never been a problem. One Aspirin a day since the operation. Hasn't affected sailing at all. Like to second your thoughts on ASA. I have to admit the bunch of Bums mean A LOT to me too Happy New Year to you and to all our friends. Ole Thom |
Don't you be talking like that! Neither of you is going anywhere for a long

Damn Bart, Sorry to hear you had to deal with that.
I'm thinking of going ahead and getting stents now while I'm in better shape to handle the recovery. No since in putting things off ;0) Glad your back, now hit the jogging trail, or get a row boat. Joe |
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure I always say.
There is no reason a man should ever have to have stents installed in his arteries other than he is too fat and lazy and does not eat right and exercise. It's one thing when you get real old and the arteries tend to close as a product of aging but when you're relative young in your forties shame on you for not taking care of yourself to begin with. Man, they must have been giving you some pretty good drugs in the hospital. Odds are better than what you suggest, but are affected most by things that people rarely worry about. For example, hospital acquired staff infections kill many. There are also many misconceptions about cardiac care. I hope you have a speedy & complete recovery, but ignore any advice and comment from anybody who is not either a rep of the AHA or one of *your* doctors... hanging around doctors at the sailing club doesn't count! Scotty,
Remember the Steelers are LOSERS when they meet the Patriots in the playoffs. Do you remember that recent AFC Championsip game at Pittsburg? That was a great game! Jan 27th 2001 New England 24 Pittsburg 17 The Steeler choke at AFC Championship games with a 1-3 record. They won one AFC Championship in the last ten years and then got killed in the Superbowl. Change the name to the Pittsburg CHOKERS. Wouldn't you rather see America's team, the Patriots, win the Superbowl for the AFC? Of course you do. "Scott Vernon" wrote "Bart Senior" wrote Damn right. Put your money where your big fat mouth is Bart.
I got fifty bucks that says the Steelers will beat the Pats if it comes to that. If you should happen to win you can use the money to stock up on Egg Beaters so your arteries don't clog up again. Hey Bart, I just thought of something you might not be aware of.
Recent studies have demonstrated that the same bacteria that causes plaque build up in the mouth and causes gingivitis is found in the plaque buildups in coronary arteries. If you have rotten teeth, gum disease and bad breath you might be able to increase your chances of keeping those stents open by an aggressive treatment for your gingivitis. This sounds like a bogus post but do some Googling and you might find the article that brought the link between gum disease and CAD to my attention. I hope this helps. wrote Correction. Those were not electric shocks that made Bobsprit's boat bounce up and down. They were hydraulic jackstands. I think you also need a lesson about flat-chested women. Flat chested women are, almost without exception, better lovers. They have had to develop certain skills below the waistline in order to compensate for their small mammaries. They know what it takes to please a man because of it. I don't know about you but I have never had a pair of mammaries, regardless of how big they were, give me what an educated vagina can. There is yet another reason why every man should learn to love flat-chested women . . . many young women do not grow them until they are 12 or 13. Would you honestly rule them out because of it? Respectfully, Capt. Neal ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ YAWN! CN |

The nation's first capital was Philadelphia, then the great metropolis

I might take you up on that. First both teams have to get that far.
Both San Diego and Indy look pretty good too. however most people, myself included, have decided that the Steeler Pats matchup is themost like AFC Championship game. I think this will be better than the superbowl this year. I'm eage to see Corey Dillion run for 100 yards against the Chokers. "Capt. Neal®" wrote Put your money where your big fat mouth is Bart.
