![]() Scott Vernon wrote in message ... Why do you feel it's our 'duty' to send aid to any and every disaster on the planet? On the news I saw a woman , in some small country that got hit, complaining that they haven't received enough aid. While I do feel sorry for her in her situation , I don't like her all too typical, victim mentality, attitude. She should be grateful if and when aid arrives, instead of expecting it and complaining about the lack of it. This ties in with the ''AAA'' mentality of sailing now a days. Scotty Scotty and Joe should be ashamed of their posts. The plight of this poor woman, and thousands of others, bears no relation whatever to that of people who undertake potentially risky activities on the assumption that someone will come along and rescue them if they get into trouble. She has not got a 'victim mentality' because she _is_ in fact a victim, of a totally unforeseeable catastrophe while going about her normal daily activities and had no way of helping herself from her own resources. None of those victims knew for a long time that what had happened to them was repeated along hundreds of miles of coastline so it would only be natural to wonder why no aid was quickly forthcoming. Our 'duty' to help springs from the fact that we are all part of the human race. If you disagree then I am sorry for you. |
