Why do you feel it's our 'duty' to send aid to any and every disaster
on the planet?
On the news I saw a woman , in some small country that got hit,
complaining that they haven't received enough aid. While I do feel
sorry for her in her situation , I don't like her all too typical,
victim mentality, attitude.
She should be grateful if and when aid arrives, instead of expecting
it and complaining about the lack of it.

This ties in with the ''AAA'' mentality of sailing now a days.

Scotty

Scotty and Joe should be ashamed of their posts. The plight of this poor
woman, and thousands of others, bears no relation whatever to that of people
who undertake potentially risky activities on the assumption that someone
will come along and rescue them if they get into trouble.
She has not got a 'victim mentality' because she _is_ in fact a victim, of
a totally unforeseeable catastrophe while going about her normal daily
activities and had no way of helping herself from her own resources. None
of those victims knew for a long time that what had happened to them was
repeated along hundreds of miles of coastline so it would only be natural to
wonder why no aid was quickly forthcoming.
Our 'duty' to help springs from the fact that we are all part of the human
race. If you disagree then I am sorry for you.

They are being punished for their arrogance, yet they are not capable
of realizing it and mending their heathen ways. Islam is a failed religion
because, at it's very roots, is a belief that by combining war and religion
Islam would be able to take over the world. IN THEIR ARROGANCE, Muslims
fail to realize education, population control, and civilized behavior must be
part of the mix if any religion is to be successful.

God is good! Islam is a Satanic religion. Recall the "Satanic Verses" by
Salman Rushdee? Islamic clerics issued 'fatwahs' on this author because
they feared the truth. To Hell with every last Muslim who agrees in death
to everyone who does not embrace their Satanic faith.

Will you get off the whole religion thing here??? These are PEOPLE...it
doesn't matter if they worship salamanders....and if one group refuses,
there are 5 million others that won;t so move on down the line...trolling
religion in the wake of a disaster like this just shows the sheer bottom
that you feed on...

Umm, does that mean they can't eat salamanders?

Yep. Unfortunately, religion is not a force for good in most people's
lives, though. It's a way of feeling smugly superior to all others
("you're going to Hell and I'm not, nyah nyah"), a way of justifying
their prejudices, and a rationalization for cruelty & robbery.

Whatever slight positive effect on morality religion might have is due
to fear of punishment, which IMHO is not really anything to brag about.

If you think I'm being overly cynical, notice how the same crowd is
trying to "prove" that the U.S. is donating more than others as though
it were a contest, as though they share in the grace of giving even if
they've not donated one penny themselves.

'Minutes after the disaster', they had no idea of the scale of the disaster,
nor did the rest of the world.
As for being ignorant I suspect, subject to correction from any of you,
that I am the only person posting here that has spent a considerable amount
of time in Sri Lanka, not as a tourist, but working, first when I was in the
Royal Navy based at Trincomalee on the east coast and years later as a
businessman working in Colombo in connection with the railways. And, by the
way, your assumption that Sri Lanka is a Muslim country is incorrect.
Certainly there are Muslims there as there are in most countries but a very
high proportion of the population have other religions, including a lot of
Christians.
Moreover, I do not agree with those who started this thread by suggesting
that the USA is dragging its feet on aid. I believe the USA is doing what
has to be done as fast or even faster than the aid can be handled at the
receiving end, which means 'fast enough'.

Do you now realise that you are ignorant of the facts?

They didn't refuse help. They said that they didn't have the facilities to
deal with more "helpers".

Perhaps you should sue your local news broadcaster for feeding your ignorant
predjudices.
